Position Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Content and Social Media in the Communications Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for writing and editing ICANN communications content.

Key Responsibilities:

* Write content concerning a variety of technical and non-technical topics, which involve ICANN and its community,
its work and functions, including promotional material, announcements, blogs, newsletters, infographics, brochures, and
other multimedia content.
* Emphasize and communicate ICANN’s key messages.
* Revise existing content for non-technical audiences.
* Revise documents multiple times as new issues arise and track revisions.
* Create process for seeking input and approvals from relevant parties including Legal, Language Services,
Technical Engagement, and ICANN’s community.
* Edit written content to conform to ICANN’s Written Style Guidelines and Global English standards.
* Perform research and interviews with relevant stakeholders and experts.
* Coordinate, write, and lead the production of the ICANN Annual Report and newsletters.
* Edit content for grammar, spelling, tone, and style.
* For content requiring visual elements, coordinate closely with ICANN’s Graphic Designer to blend text with
graphics, pictures, videos, and other visual elements.
* Identify online versions of existing content that is being updated and work with Communications to distribute
latest versions and archive older versions.
* Implement ICANN’s Visual Identity and Written Guidelines across all content.
* Determine the audience needs and goals for content.
* Gather usability and readability feedback and implement relevant improvements.
* Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

* English language fluency (writing and speaking), must have English as a first language.
* Superior writing and editing skills in English (American English and Associated Press Style are the ICANN standards).
* Excellent global English writing and editing skills.
* Writing content of various lengths, from short paragraphs to longer reports of 50+ pages.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
* Working with Adobe products like Acrobat Pro and newsletter platforms like Constant Contact.
* Working independently and coordinating with team members via online tools.
* Writing for technical and non-technical audiences.
* Simplifying technical language for non-technical audiences.
* Excellent listening, collaboration, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
* Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts, particularly related to the operation of the Internet.
* Sound judgment and tact when interacting with various stakeholders.
* Multitasking abilities.
* Setting and meeting tight project deadlines.
* Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques.


* Requires a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, English, or related field and
five years of experience writing, editing, and publishing content in the private or public-sector; or a master’s degree
or doctorate with three years of experience.
* Multilingual or bilingual preferred, ideally in one of the following languages: Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic, or Russian.
* Experience working for a global organization and having written content translated into multiple languages.
* General understanding of the Internet functions, ICANN technical ecosystem, and Internet governance is an
advantage but not a requirement.
* Knowledge of web and document layout is an advantage, but not a requirement.
