IBM Watson Health is searching for an innovative and driven Senior Software Development Manager to lead teams to help build solutions that use the power of data to unlock the mysteries behind disease, treatments, and patient outcomes.

As a Senior Manager of Software Development, located in the Cleveland, Ohio offices you will have the opportunity to lead multiple platform software development teams to successfully build and extend our products and strategy. These teams design and implement next-generation solutions on top of our big data API platform that transforms our partners clinical, financial, and operational data into actionable information that enable population health and performance management personnel to improve patient outcomes. Your responsibilities will include everything from development to operations of the platform. You will lead the engineering team that values cross-functional skills and fosters rapid collaboration and communication to deliver high-quality products to our partners. While you are not expected to be a hands-on engineer, you must have a deep technical knowledge to participate in architecture/design conversations and to clearly articulate decisions to key stakeholders.

We push the bounds of innovation by building upon quickly evolving technologies like Java, Docker, Kubernetes, MySQL, Linux, Hadoop, HBase, IBM Cloud, IBM Data, and more. Additionally, our API platform is fully continuous-delivery enabled, built on a stack utilizing Docker and Kubernetes.
Essential Functions:
  • Lead and manage igh performing software development teams
  • Coordinate activities with other engineering teams, such as release management, data acquisitions, and infrastructure engineering (DevOps)
  • Promote and enforce the development of clean, scalable, maintainable product architecture, both internally and externally
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate activities, prioritization, and roadmap with offering management
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirement definitions and technical design to feature implementation and testing
  • Establish strong working relationships with team members that support an environment of learning and improvement

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • A minimum of 2 years of up-line management/Team Lead experience leading development teams
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with software development
  • Real-world experience with APIs and API design
  • Extremely organized with the ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and balance multiple requirements impacting the development team
  • Exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent technical communication abilities and effective strategies for communicating with remote parties
  • Must be located or willing to relocate to the Northeast Ohio area.
