Your Role and Responsibilities

The Clinical Terminology Specialist is responsible for developing and supporting Clinical Decision Support operations and innovations by providing clinical and biomedical terminology expertise.

Essential Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

The Clinical Terminology Specialist is responsible for the following.

1. Researches pharmacologic and clinical substances, procedures, findings, and diseases for possible addition to the data repository (lexicon). Synthesizes complex information from multiple, sometimes conflicting, sources to form a conclusion.

2. Maintains synonyms, relationships, and other product-specific attributes related to individual concepts within the lexicon. Creates and maintains logical mappings among multiple clinical terminology sets. Works with clinical terminology team to maintain and upgrade lexicon databases.

3. Establishes and maintains protocols for data normalization across multiple products to create clinically relevant linking among documents throughout the lexicon.

4. Educates and assists editorial staff in the use of the lexicon during content creation and review.

5. Maintains awareness of current controversies, issues, and developments in terminology. Identifies ways to leverage current content and processes. Proposes solutions that meet existing and new controlled terminology standards.

6. Supports the development and delivery of Clinical Decision Support (CDS) solutions including coordinating and implementing clinical terminology-related deliverables.

7. Researches and resolves inquiries related to the lexicon. Serves as a liaison and provides support to development projects, other departments and other business units as required.

8. Participates in staff development activities in support of maintaining necessary job skills.

Required Professional and Technical Expertise
4+ years experience with clinical vocabulary structure, biomedical informatics, code sets, term mapping, indexing, content modeling, and/or integrating clinical vocabularies.

Ability to apply clinical knowledge and experience in critical thinking and problem-solving.

Ability to independently organize work and perform multiple tasks.

Effective verbal and written communication skills including ability to respond efficiently and effectively to internal customer needs as part of a shared services team.

Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise
BS Degree in Pharmacy (PharmD preferred).

Residency or board certification preferred.

2+ years related clinical pharmacist experience.

Data management skills in MS Access and Oracle databases preferred
