VMware/SAN Admin


REQUIRED SKILLS:


o Extensive experience level knowledge of VMware ESX, Storage (SAN) infrastructure, fiber networks, Linux, and Windows Server required


o Have at least 3 (prefer 7) years of industry experience administration, upgrading, replication and maintenance of a medium to large VMWare ESX and other virtualization technologies (version 5.5 or above)


o Experience in a VMWare vSphere design, install and support role


o Experience in scripting, Power Shell


o Familiar with Microsoft System Center product suite; SCCM, SCOM, SCSM


o Prefer experience with multiple Storage systems and HBAs


o Familiar with Service Now and ITIL Foundation.


o Requires excellent communication skills (written and oral)


o Requires excellent attention to detail



  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision


NICE TO HAVE SKILLS


Associates degree or higher; VCP certification or equivalent training/experience that will have provided the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job.


5+ years' experience providing virtual support in an enterprise production environment.


Extensive experience building scalable, highly available, mission critical virtual infrastructures, should include designing, implementing and managing multiple virtual environments


WHAT EXACTLY WILL THIS INDIVIDUAL BE WORKING ON?


This role is for a technical lead in transitioning critical operational support tasks for the server platform, virtualization, and storage infrastructure to the DCS team as a member of the Service Operations project. This will include the documentation, training, and mentoring of the DCS team to assume the roles and responsibilities necessary to support IST infrastructure. Creating and training the DCS team in automation of support tasks using provided languages, tools, and methodologies. The intent is to bring the rapid response skills of the DCS team to a higher technical level, while allowing the teams currently owning the technology to focus on project work and cloud initiatives.


Transition the Linux, VMware, and Storage (SAN) operational support responsibilities to the Data Center team. Operational support tasks such as diagnose and resolve performance and reliability issues across hardware, operating systems, infrastructure applications, and networks. Respond to and address requests for provisioning and decommissioning resources in the Linux, storage and VMware environments. This includes documenting the work, training the Data Center resources, and mentoring for continued development in these technology areas.
