The EIT team helps customers directly every time they do business with the company, delivering a true One Wells Fargo experience and ensuring their security, regardless of channel. To do this, EIT draws on the talents and motivation of thousands of technology team members across the enterprise. Altogether, EIT manages worldwide technology for more than 8,700 branches and 12,500 ATMs larger than Starbucks and The Gap combined.

Customer & Deposits Technology Overview

The Payments, Virtual Solutions and Innovation (PVSI) business group was created to leverage and build on our strengths to deliver compelling and game changing experiences for our customers. The launch of this business division brought together six lines of businesses: Consumer Credit Solutions, Deposit Products Group, Innovations, Operations, Treasury Management and Wells Fargo Virtual Channels. The PVSI & Community Banking technology group brings together technology teams across the firm focused on delivering the next generation of payments capabilities, advancing digital offerings, enabling innovation to develop new customer experiences & products and enhancing branch, contact center & ATM technology.

The Customer & Deposits Technology Leader will be a critical member of the PVSI & Community Banking technology leadership team and play a central technology and planning role for the Deposits line of business by effectively balancing the technology needs of our customers with enterprise technology priorities. This role will work with enterprise technology partners to create competitive advantage and positive customer impact for the businesses through effective management of the applications portfolio, simplification of the technology solutions, enhanced time to market, strong IT governance and effective technology risk management.

The Customer & Deposits Technology Leader will have overall responsibility for providing technology solutions to the Deposits line of business. These solutions include the Enterprise Customer Information System and the Deposits Platform.

  • The Enterprise Customer Information System is the central information repository for our 76.6 million active customers across the Wells Fargo footprint. It maintains critical customer information, including a customer relationship level view of products and services. It enables customer interactions with our delivery and servicing channels by supporting customer authentication, providing product/service information, and providing key functionality to support customer information maintenance capabilities.
  • The Deposits Platform and Suite of Applications support 65 million active Consumer, Small Business, and Large Corporate customer accounts across an array of products including Checking, Savings, Money Market, Certificates of Deposits, and Retirement accounts. Additionally, the Deposits platform enables our high net worth Brokerage customers in daily transaction (i.e. Branch, ATM, and Monetary Transfers via on-line banking) processes. As with any large financial institution, the Deposits platform is a cornerstone application that supports the processes associated with real time access to account information, transaction authorization, and a host of maintenance functions in support our customers daily activities.
  • This leader will also be responsible for helping fully integrate a real time transaction fraud modeling application into our service delivery platform offerings; ATM/POS authorization, Deposit processing via Mobile, Branch, and ATM/POS banking, as well as supporting the real time messaging to customers of potential fraudulent activity.
  • Position Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes

    This position is responsible for application design, development and support of the Customer Information and Deposits systems. Key success criteria for this role will be the ability to provide world class availability, maintain up-to-date business and regulatory enhancements, and implement a human capital strategy to maintain these core platforms. This position will also be responsible for developing a road map and investment plan for modernizing systems where needed.

    You will also:

  • Manage application portfolio of critical, large scale, core banking platforms, including the Customer & Deposits enterprise systems of record. Applications have diverse underlying technology architectures including legacy and distributed platforms that provide near real time responses for customer-initiated activities. Applications also have significant interdependencies and interface with multiple channels and systems of record.
  • Assess current staff capabilities, identify talent gaps, and execute talent management actions aligned with human capital strategy.
  • Define technology strategy/roadmap, provide strategic technology perspective to technology and business executive management and recommend innovations, aligned with short term & long-term business/customer requirements, enterprise priorities and industry trends.
  • Leverage common/COE services (e.g. PMO, Application Architects, QA, Platform Management) to continually evolve and improve technology delivery.
  • Act as the single accountable senior leader for delivering technology to the Deposits line of business. Represent technology as the senior leader in the associated business senior management teams in addition to relevant business operating and risk committees.
  • Partner closely with the line of business leaders to ensure that technology initiatives are aligned with business, enterprise and EIT priorities.
  • Demonstrate business partner value by understanding the business, advocating technology solutions to advance business initiatives, incorporating internal / external customer views, and managing key financial indicators to the benefit of Well Fargos shareholders.
  • Be the broker/author for technology solutions that efficiently and effectively meet business needs leveraging enterprise technology services with a bias towards consistency, standards and common solutions. Provide re-usable, scalable and secure solutions that can be leveraged across the organization.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with other functional areas in the Enterprise CIO group and across EIT (e.g. Technology Infrastructure, Chief Operating Office, and Technology Risk Management) as well as critical enterprise partners (e.g. Enterprise Information Security, Enterprise Data & Analytics, Enterprise Global Services, Corporate Risk, Corporate Finance, HR, Communications).
  • Accountable for holistic technology performance including service level agreements, project performance, regulatory compliance, and vendor management.
  • Provide senior technology perspective on industry trends, competitive landscape and market/regulatory changes leveraging industry contacts, vendors, and strategic technology partner relationships.
  • Be the senior accountable owner for in scope applications portfolio ensuring strong technology operational risk management and compliance while also driving application portfolio rationalization, optimization and modernization.
  • Manage and allocate appropriate people and financial resources to ensure that projects are completed within committed time and budget and align with strategic objectives.
  • Required Qualifications

    12+ years of experience in the following: technology development, application development, and implementation7+ years of management experience, in development and implementation

    Desired Qualifications

    Experience managing large or multiple technology development efforts within a major line of businessAbility to effectively partner and influence at the executive level

  • 10+ years of experience leading highly technical teams and deliverables across diverse application technology environments
  • 7+ years of budget management experience
  • 5+ years of executive leadership experience managing a complex, large scale technology organization including senior managers, managers, individual contributors and vendor resources across multiple global locations
  • Relevant prior experience for delivering technology services and solutions in a large dynamic financial service business segment with proven track record of developing and maintaining the highest availability standards for large scale, core banking platforms
  • Ability to effectively drive and lead change in an organization with Wells Fargos size, scale and complexity
  • Demonstrated experience in building, leading, developing and retaining a high performing team of leaders, strong technical experts and high performing professionals in a cultural environment that achieves results through team member engagement and satisfaction
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large portfolio of technology efforts across several major lines of business and effectively partner/influence at the senior executive level
  • Demonstrated strong business and technology acumen with knowledge and understanding of the financial, operational, technical and regulatory drivers impacting a complex and dynamic global technology environment
  • Ability to develop and implement technology strategy, operating model & roadmaps with clear objectives and aligned with business, enterprise and technology strategies
  • Broad experience across multiple areas of technology including one or more of architecture, infrastructure and application development with strong understanding of leading edge as well as legacy and distributed technologies to effectively manage the complex and diverse applications portfolio
  • Highly effective decision-making/critical thinking/problem solving skills with a collaborative and results oriented leadership style
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with key business partners and translate complex, technical concepts so that they are clearly understood in support of sound decisions to meet business objectives
  • Demonstrated experience motivating and influencing groups or individuals across organizational boundaries to gain trust and confidence to make timely decisions
  • Demonstrated vendor negotiation and partnership skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) with ability to communicate at multiple levels ranging from technologists to senior managers and executive leadership
