About Enterprise Technology Infrastructure (ETI)

As part of EIT, the Enterprise Technology Infrastructure (ETI) team is responsible for enterprise-wide infrastructure services across the global footprint, including networking, production services, storage, data centers, mainframe, midrange and Cloud-based systems, distributed systems and international infrastructure. Within ETI, Enterprise Compute Services (ECS) provides hosting services which include all technology infrastructure compute, storage and backup platforms for customer, business and team member application needs. Key responsibilities within ECS include:

  • Engineering, maintenance and support for all compute platform architectures (mainframe, midrange, distributed server, cloud), including storage and backup platforms, both hardware and systems software (OS and layered products).
  • Product and platform management for component ownership
  • Level 2 and 3 production support
  • Patching, maintenance, configuration and vulnerability management
  • First line of defense risk management, information security and production controls
  • Technology refresh and modernization
  • Compute vendor management in partnership with Technology Asset Operations (TAO) and Process engineering
  • IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) Cloud Engineering.

Enterprise Compute Maintenance and Support Position:

This senior level position is a key technology leader directing distributed systems operations and maintenance team (approximately 400 + resources globally) reporting directly to the Distributed Compute Services Group Technology Manager as a member of the senior leadership team. He or she is responsible for managing the global server environment for the enterprise that runs 24/7/365. This environment consists of 85,000+ servers with a diverse set of operating environments. This organization supports and maintains Operating System (including layered products and firmware) regular maintenance, production support, ongoing refresh of the infrastructure, compliance/governance support, and directing key enterprise and Information Services projects. Understanding the size and scale of our enterprise distributed compute environment, this position will work closely with the our executive leadership team, ECS and Enterprise Sr. Leadership to provide enterprise governance for the server infrastructure in addition to the direct operational responsibilities. This position will direct our distributed compute maintenance and support management practices for our firm, accountable for providing strategic direction and supporting and executing key Enterprise initiatives.

Critical to the success of Compute Maintenance and Support will be this leaders ability to understand and articulate the vision, strategy and the state of Distributed Compute Services activities, and garner support throughout the organization to deliver on the enterprise goals. He or she must effectively grow and sustain executive level relationships across multiple organizations including engineering, Infrastructure Architecture, Service Delivery, Lines of Business, Risk Management, Information Security, Finance, Operations and others, leveraging the skills of each to contribute toward success for Wells Fargo. He/she must provide calm, focused broad leadership in high-pressure circumstances; yet retain enough knowledge of details to be able to dive deeply as a member of a team working to solve a particular problem. He/she must be comfortable and confident directing multiple work streams, communicating status and answering questions from senior leaders, as well as addressing challenges for engineers, partners, vendors and project managers. Skills in directing and managing across multiple groups, geographies and work streams is necessary for this position.

This position includes security, regulatory, and compliance critical work to include: Safety and Soundness, End of Life work, monthly Patching. This manager will interface with all CIO, Enterprise Architecture, and Enterprise Infrastructure Technology (EIT) senior managers. Additionally, this leader will interface directly with Line of Business leaders from time to time.

Manage team of engineers, business systems consultants and senior managers for the support and maintenance of the global server environment.

This leader leads the following functions:

  • Server Maintenance
  • Patch Management
  • Remediation and Compliance
  • Event Management
  • Real Time Cyber Threat Response
  • Dealer Services Support

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of technology infrastructure experience
  • 7+ years of management experience in technology
  • 5+ years of distributed servers platform experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple or large technology infrastructure components
  • Ability to manage a budget in excess of $30 million

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Direct experience managing budgets in excess of $30 million, including project and base expense center
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and/or large technology infrastructure functions. International experience is a plus.
  • Adept at managing competing priorities to reach the optimal outcome for the company as a whole, while building and maintaining relationships
  • Executive leadership experience managing a complex technology organization of large scale (100+) including senior managers, managers, individual contributors and vendor resources across multiple global locations
  • Ability to effectively drive and lead change in an organization with Wells Fargos size, scale and complexity
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the financial, operational, technical and regulatory drivers impacting a complex and dynamic global technology environment
  • Ability to develop technology strategy, operating model & roadmaps with clear objectives and aligned with business, enterprise and EIT strategies
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) with ability to communicate at multiple levels ranging from technologists to senior managers and executive leadership
  • Strong commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Must be self-driven and able to engage and direct teams successfully with little supervision and day-to-day direction
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems technologies including Unix, Linux, AIX, Windows
  • Demonstrable experience with high-availability and business contingency strategies
