Project Overview:


As a technical writer on the team, you will teach internal developers how to build experiences for the next wave of computing (AI & Machine Intelligence) on to various Google products. This will include writing overview, conceptual and integration guides.


Overall Responsibilities:


You will work with other tech writers, engineers and product managers to determine which features need documentation. You will then work independently to investigate code, tools and APIs, create document plans, write developer guides and maintain engineering and partner documentation.


You might have a background as a developer and have a passion for teaching others through written communication; or you're a seasoned communicator with experience writing documentation for developers. One thing is for sure: you love to investigate new technology and make complex things easy to understand.


Top 3 daily responsiblities:


Write technical documentation, such as integration guides, API reference docs, developer guides, overview docs, architecture diagram, codelabs. and tutorials for other Google teams to help them integrate with the platform.


Identify documentation gaps, and work with engineers and cross-functional teams to fill those gaps through documentation.


Design and organize documentation sets for new APIs and developer products.


Additional Responsibilities:


Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by engineers, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.


Required Skills:


BA/BS degree, no specific field required


5+ years of relevant technical writing experience with a special focus on writing for developers.


Proven record of writing accurate, clear, and concise documentation.


Excellent code comprehension skills.


Ability to document sample code provided by developers written in Java, C++, Python, and/or JavaScript.


Familiarity authoring docs and page layout in HTML and Markdown.


Nice to Have:


Extensive experience researching and writing documentation for developers (APIs, SDKs, web technologies).


Proficiency in a Unix environment.
