Assignment Requirements:

General Technical Skills:

As a Technical Writer, will create all project related documentation and capture stakeholder feedback. Will join a highly skilled and technically diverse team on a high profile program. Other expectations include: produce and maintain meeting minutes and agendas, utilize business specifications and technical data to compile readable documents, and also rely on extensive industry knowledge and professional discretion to deliver audience specific communication plans. The ideal candidate must excel at writing and editing operational manuals and execution plans, develop and document technical design specifications and test procedures as needed. Producing electronic documentation, in addition to hard copies, in a timely manner is a must. The ideal candidate will analyze existing documentation and notice potential content gaps. The technical writer must maintain a comprehensive SharePoint library of technical terminology and documentation for "lessons learned" purposes. Lastly, the candidate will analyze the document library to maintain continuity of writing style, content and overall aesthetics and also manage updates and revisions to technical literature, enforcing strict version control.

Skills and Experience Needed:

- Six or more years of experience in technical documentation with large organizations

- Five or more years of computer software knowledge, such as Microsoft Project and Microsoft SharePoint

- Write in an explanatory and procedural manner

- Strong attention to detail, with a mastery of the English language

- Demonstrate understanding of networking concepts and project management principles

- Good listener who is able to prepare succinct, senior management grade presentations

- Meticulous organizer able to decompose complex technical verbiage into laymen's terms

- Can collaborate with the project team to establish technical specifications and quantifiable deliverables

- Clear communicator adept at articulating ideas and "reading between the lines"

- Ensure that procedures/documents contain the appropriate level of detail, technical information, and instruction commensurate with the activity and are aligned with related documentation such as forms, inspection records, etc. including the appropriate verification steps

- Public speaking

Required Software Specific Skills:

  • Six to Ten or more years of working knowledge with SharePoint, Adobe, PDF, Word, Visio, Excel and PPT
  • Able to create process flows, diagrams, and Excel tables
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Computer Science or related field

Nice to Have:

  • Current certification from the Society for Technical Communication
  • Project Management Institute CAPM accreditation
  • Familiarity working with federal and local governments or local municipalities


Assignment has the potential to be extended for additional period (9-12 months).
