Under the general supervision of the Chief Information Officer, the Technical Operations Manager (TOM) will supervise and maintain the college technical operations. The Technical Operations Manager is responsible for the administration of the college's imaging system and maintaining lab standards for uninterrupted classroom experience. This role will also manage software licensing and deployment for all desktop computers across campus, including vendor relationships for technical support. Responsibilities include imaging of MAC computers in classrooms with attention to performance and reliability. Under direction of Director of Infrastructure, maintains servers in VMware farm and manages all network switches, routers and firewalls and backups.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manages all aspects of computer labs including design of the spaces, hardware and software support, software image creation and deployment, and process documentation with attention to performance and reliability. (a) User profiles, computer and applications settings for labs. (b) Student printing system. (c) Mac labs imaging, settings, and configuration using OS X Mac Server and other tools.
  • Leads the design, execution, and support of moving computer labs to a virtual platform.
  • Provides research and development of a centralized system for image management/deployment.
  • Manages software subscription services such as Microsoft, Adobe, ESET, Freedom Scientific, and others for the college.
  • Develops, updates, documents and manages GPOs across complex multiple domain, network environment.
  • Manages, maintains and operates multiple platform servers (Windows) within the institutions server farm including maintaining current backups on all server.
  • Maintains servers in VMware farm and manages all network switches, routers and firewalls and backups.
  • Manages and maintains the Key Management System (KMS) to ensure proper activation of computer OS and MS Office applications.
  • Supports and resolves issues with key areas and systems such as the college’s Bookstore system, TouchNet, KeyCard, SimIQ, ImageSilo, and others.
  • Supports Cisco phone system with Director of Infrastructure.
  • Keeps accurate documentation of all job functions in a detailed precise manner.
  • Works as backup for the college's network infrastructure to include closet and backbone wiring, switches, routers and firewalls, UPSs, and general LAN diagnostics.
  • Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.

 

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in related discipline; with 7 years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s Degree with five years of experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications systems, audiovisual systems and information technology equipment required
  • Experience with TCP/IP, Cisco, server administration
  • Recognized expertise in technical infrastructure (networks, security), systems, databases, business area; project management skills; good oral and written communication abilities
  • Experience in resolving technical issues, including those involving 3rd parties.
