As a Deputy Editor for Google Developer Relations, you'll help manage developers.google.com, developer.android.com, cloud.google.com, and more than a dozen other external developer sites that run on the same platform. Our sites teach developers how to use Google APIs and developer tools to build modern web and mobile apps. You'll review new content created by tech writers, engineers, and product managers, ensure it is designed in accordance with our style guide, and rework it to improve the user experience across our sites. As a Technical Editor, you juggle a variety of projects, from reading and editing/writing example code, to updating FAQs, to drafting product announcements, to handling the technical configuration of new sites (don't worry, we'll teach you that part). When a new technical challenge rises to forefront, you are there to defuse it with your clarifying pen (or keyboard, more likely).

Top daily responsibilities:

- Review the structure and setup of new developer documentation created by other writers and engineers.

- Act as the primary manager of our back-catalog of 100,000+ pages of existing developer documentation.

- Work with other teams at Google to launch new developer sites.

- Provide support to hundreds of internal users.

Additional responsibilities:

- Occasionally write new technical documentation for our external developer audience, such as API reference docs and developer guides.

- Coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.

- Supplement developer documentation with relevant sample code.

- Stretch your technical abilities to fix bugs in our content management system or even develop new features.

Required skills:

- BS/BA Degree (manager is open to area of study - concerned more with experience) or an additional 2 + years equivalent practical experience.

- 2 years of relevant experience, such as technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing including experience with writing technical customer-facing materials.

- Proficiency with HTML and CSS.

- Background working with APIs, SDKs, and other developer technology.

- Recent experience reading and writing basic source code in Python, JavaScript, Java, or any C-style language.

- Familiarity with command-line tools.

Nice to have:

- 4 years of relevant work experience, including experience researching and writing excellent documentation for developers (APIs, SDKs, web technologies).

- Proficiency in a Unix environment.
