This position is a technical resource responsible for the administration of the physical and virtualized, server and storage infrastructure. In this role, the individual will work directly with core internal and external customers to ensure that system availability and reliability is maintained in order to meet customer needs. The engineer will provide a stable, functional environment by ensuring availability, connectivity, integrity, and security of servers and virtual hosts. Develop and maintain performance metrics and tools to support system monitoring and incident resolution/escalation. Provide proactive responses and analysis of system issues as well as project planning and prioritization.

Key Technical Responsibilities, Competencies, and Skills

- Knowledgeable in the design and day to day administration of VMware vSphere and Microsoft Windows Servers; supporting over 600 servers and over 800 users.

- Leverage industry knowledge, professional experience, and conduct thorough research, to effectively plan, install, configure and operate infrastructure hardware, virtualization platforms, operating systems, system software and tools.

- Diagnose, solve or assist staff in solving non-routine or complex software, hardware, and procedural problems; particularly those related to VMware and Microsoft.

- Ensure all platforms conform to configuration, performance and security requirements and standards.

- Analyze and minimize the impact of production changes on business operations by leveraging test/validation processes, process documentation and change management.

- Knowledge of scripting, subsystem functionality, data replication, security, storage protocols, network protocols and connectivity

- Maximize system availability and optimize the end user experience.

- Work with team members and manager to develop long term vision and road map strategy for responsible platforms in alignment with organizational and company strategic objectives.

- Analyze business needs and conduct research for technical and procedural solutions. Implement and monitor process improvement efforts, including quantifiable measures of success.

- Performs preventative maintenance routines to ensure system availability and performance standards on assigned operating systems.

- Work with IT and business partners to define project scope; Identify and prioritize requirements.

- Participate in on-call rotation with Server and Storage Team

- Demonstrate proficiency as a technical resource for our core platforms, Microsoft Server, Citrix and VMWare.

- Increases staff skill levels by cross training. Helps raise the level of the Servers and Storage Group as a whole, up to true second and third tier performance ensuring there are no single points of knowledge.

- Familiarity with diagnostic tools, administrative tools and performance optimization/tuning.

Education and/or Experience

- Bachelor's degree from 4 year institution, with emphasis in Information Technology, or equivalent work experience is required.

- 5+ years of relevant experience in the Information Technology Infrastructure Administration
