Summary


Responsible for the 24x7 support, planning, configuration, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of a highly available Windows environment; including operating systems, DNS,DHCP, AD, server hardware, related software utilities, performance monitoring and tuning, and scripting. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. The System Administrator will ensure maximum up-time of system hardware, operating systems, software applications, and related products and services.


The System Administrator will also be responsible for managing the Storage Area Network (SAN), network and backup infrastructure, domain and certificate management, failover and load balancing.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Monitor and tuning systems and reviewing applications logs on a daily and as-needed basis to ensure availability and optimum performance of system resources.
  • Ensure server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.
  • Research, price and vet products, solutions, applications and services and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administrative tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Install new/rebuild existing servers (virtual or premise) and configure hardware, peripherals, services, and settings.
  • Perform routine server maintenance activities including user account management, software and hardware upgrades, configuration, and optimization.
  • Perform daily security evaluations to ensure system integrity against intrusion or other disruptions.
  • Maintain and perform appropriate backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes, disks or cloud are created and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Develop, update, and execute disaster recovery plan. Manage and monitor backup operations, ensuring complete and accurate data replication and ensuring ability to restore servers, applications, and data.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  • Monitor and address data center environmental issues including air handling, power maintenance and backup, equipment, and access security.
  • Manage network switches, firewall, routers, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with FTA security requirements related to system integrity, access, and control.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per policy.
  • Provide Tier II/III and any other support per request. Investigate and trouble shoot issues in a timely and efficient manner according to service level agreements (SLA's).
  • Work within the organization to promote excellent customer service, effective response times and provide expert insights into support issues with end users and 3rdparty vendors.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary.
  • Conduct routine hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Assist project teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases of projects. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits and technical strategy; research and development with the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions.
  • Maintain and assure confidentiality of data.
  • Maintain and Monitor BJCTA PIDS (Public Information Display Screen)
  • Maintain and assure compliance with all IT policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Required Experience



  • Experience managing Windows 2003/2008/2012 in a Systems Administrator role.
  • Expert level knowledge in Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange and SQL Server.
  • Experience in network infrastructure (firewalls, routers, switches, etc.).
  • Experience with provisioning storage on an HP Storage Area Network utilizing a switched architecture and replication of data to a remote location.
  • Experience with ESXi, vSphere systems administration and support including vMotion, HA, DRS, vCenter Operations Manager, vCenter Service Manager, vCenter Configuration Manager, Site Recovery Manager.
  • Working experience with designing and maintaining backup solutions.
  • Experience documenting solutions, processes, procedures and recovery plans.
  • Experience managing projects of a technical nature
  • Experience with scripting languages.

  • Availability for occasional travel in and out of state. A valid Alabama driver's license is required.


Desired Skills and Experience



  • BS degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 years production VMware systems/server administration
  • 5 years production Windows systems/server administration
  • Excellent communication, project management, and teamwork skills
  • Performance optimization and monitoring
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of providing clear and concise verbal and written communication of technical concepts to end users
  • Experience working with a ticketing system, tracking work done in hours and completing work according to set schedules
  • High attention to detail, ability to focus and prioritize action items
