The Sr Manager Digital Engineering and Development will provide full web and mobile technology stack leadership and vision required to define and drive the implementation and operations of guest-facing technologies for Dine Brand’s portfolio of properties (Applebee’s, IHOP, and corporate). This position will manage both local and off-shore development teams to prototype, architect and deliver innovative, performant and scalable customer facing solutions.


Business Unit Summary


The Sr Manager Digital Engineering and Development reports directly to the Executive Director of Digital and Guest Facing Technology and is responsible for defining and managing the technologies that connect with and engage our guests.  In this leadership role, the Sr Manager Digital Engineering and Development will define the development standards and platforms that Dine Brands and its vendors will use to develop and deliver guest experiences across multiple device types and customer touch points for Applebee’s, IHOP, and Dine Brands.  This is both a thought leadership and hands-on position that requires an ability to plan strategically for future objectives while coaching the team to deliver iterative incremental improvements.  In addition to overseeing the soundness of technical solutions and ensuring their alignment with strategic goals, they are responsible for ensuring that projects and solutions are accurately scoped, designed and delivered according to timelines with quality and consideration of security (OWASP) and accessibility (WCAG 2.0) requirements.



A Day in the Life

  • Digital Leadership, Development, and Maintenance:  Ensure the successful definition and execution of a compelling guest-facing technology strategy by providing the thought leadership for front end and back end technologies, web services and API’s, systems integration, infrastructure, and devices. Recommend and drive technical approach used by internal and third party team members and agencies.

  • Team Growth & Management: coach technical team members, third parties, and agencies to execute effectively on selected platforms and technologies. Make recommendations on training and professional development. Encourage technical growth by fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

  • Process Minded: Advocate and establish agile SDLC but preserve a long-term goal of evolving our team into DevOps ninjas.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to process and solve both short term and long term digital challenges. Recommend technical solutions and alternatives.

  • Operational Excellence: Leverage your experience in developing and delivering technical projects to provide accurate estimates for level of effort and complexity associated with digital projects. Assess and challenge third-party estimates of effort. Provide transparency and results to management.

  • Minimum 7 years of technical experience designing and building digital experiences for well-known consumer brands.

  • Familiarity with Sitecore WCMS.

  • Excellent Technical Documentation Skills.

  • Ability to motivate, and train technical teams.

  • Understanding of the agile software development lifecycle (SDLC) and DevOps.

  • Experience working in a cross-functional matrix organization.

  • Bachelor’s degree

Technical skills 

  • Full stack system architecture experience with Sitecore or an equivalent CMS

  • APIs, AngularJS, node.js, and Bootstrap

  • Amazon API Gateway, AWS, and Serverless solutions

  • Sitecore or other major CMS experience.

  • 24/7 Ecommerce/Retail/Gaming experience.

  • Mobile application experience.

  • Application Performance Management

  • Cloud and SaaS knowledge.

  • Supported multiple digital properties.

  • Experience working within and implementing an Agile methodology.

  • Systems integration
