Our client has an immediate need for a SQL DBA.


Job Description:


Position Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience working as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator.
  • Experience with SQL Server 2008 R2 through 2016.
  • Expert in tuning OLAP data marts/data warehouses, as well as OLTP databases.
  • Expert in use of SQL Server DMVs/DMOs to analyze server activity including wait stats, locks, latches, etc.
  • Experience with Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager and/or SQLSafe considered a plus.
  • Experience with Oracle Business Intelligence considered a plus.
  • Knowledgeable in SAP Data Integrator/Data Services and/or DBMoto considered a plus.
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and/or Data Transformation Services (DTS) considered a plus.
  • Able to work flexible schedules including on-call rotation.
  • Excellent communication skills: presentation, written, and oral.
  • Team player with a focus towards customer service.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work in a dynamic environment.


As a Senior Database Administrator, your essential job functions will include the following:



  • Serve as thought leader and point of escalation for Dealer Tire's various database technologies, staying abreast of industry trends and best practices, software/update releases, security concerns, etc. as they pertain to those technologies.
  • Mentor and coach others to improve skills and provide cross-training.
  • Lead version upgrade, high availability, disaster recovery, and other project efforts, working closely with other teams to achieve desired results.
  • Collaborate with others to improve and automate ETL, monitoring, and maintenance processes, increasing their reliability and operational effectiveness/efficiency.
  • Assist with design, testing, tuning, capacity planning, high availability, and disaster recovery of high-throughput OLTP systems as well as complex ETL and reporting\analytical systems.
  • Monitor database systems to ensure consistent service reliability and timely issue resolution.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of database systems, their designs, and operational procedures.
  • Follow system implementation and management standards and procedures including naming conventions and directory structures, local and remote access rights, and server and client software configurations.
  • Perform day-to-day database administration activities to ensure integrity, security, and availability of production and development environments.
  • Adhere to standard change control procedures across production and development environments.
  • Make recommendations to improve database and application design standards, increasing performance, reliability, and ease of administration.
  • Work closely with other teams and associates in support of project deliverables.
  • Administer database and instance access and security in adherence with security policies.
  • Maintain current releases of operating systems, applications, and software patch levels as required.
  • Create scheduled processes (SQL Agent Jobs, SSIS packages, PowerShell scripts, etc.) to automate routine functions and processes, and to monitor database usage.
  • Monitor and resolve assigned priority issues in accordance with departmental metrics and established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Work with System Administrators to monitor capacity thresholds including disk and memory storage requirements; assist with setup and periodic failover testing of high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Work with the Application Development teams in support of new applications development and database designs that are efficient and optimized to meet the performance needs of the business.
  • Resolve database issues with support from the Applications Development, Infrastructure Team and vendor support teams.
