The ideal candidate will have 5-7+ years of SQL Server Database Administration experience where their primary focus has been the support and maintenance of SQL Server (not Oracle). Company currently has a mixture of SQL Server 2008/2012/2016 in their environment while 2008 and 2012 make up most of the servers. The ideal candidate will have experience with either patching, server virtualizations, or upgrading/migrating to newer versions. Lastly, the ideal candidate will have experience with MongoDB (not required but a huge plus) If candidates do not have MongoDB experience, they need to be open to learning it and will need to have experience with Linux/Unix (AIX Preferred). Comfortable navigating in and out of the systems, not System Admin or System Engineer level.


**Vendors** This is a contract to hire opportunity, please make sure that candidates are eligible to go permanent at the time of conversion without sponsorship or any visa issues (GC or US Citizen). Also, the salary range is estimated to be around 95-100k. However, there is flexibility on both sides of that range for the right candidate. POSITION OVERVIEW


Maintain the corporate critical and non-critical databases. Collaborate with departments to understand corporate data requirements to ensure the integrity and security of corporate data. Responsible for supporting and administering Microsoft SQL Server and MongoDB Database environments.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Support the installation, configuration, security, operation, and maintenance of database software including Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB to meet business needs.
  • Maintain and administer multiple versions of database environments listed above (DEV, INT, PROD) including daily monitoring of event logs, troubleshooting and performance analysis to monitor overall health.
  • Configure and maintain database software listed above according to best practices for security, performance and availability to ensure licensing compliance and support with vendor.
  • Manage and perform patching and upgrades to the database software platforms to meet business needs.
  • Participate in the planning and communication of outages for databases.
  • Accountable for incident and problem management by ensuring incidents and problems from all business units are resolved quickly.
  • Responsible for documenting solutions and operating procedures in conjunction with Company's policies and guidelines.
  • Develop, implement and routinely test backup/restore to ensure business continuity and/or disaster recovery process for databases.
  • Understand IT Infrastructure capabilities and execute plans to leverage these capabilities to improve operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with IT departments to understand corporate database platforms and technical configuration.
  • Work with internal and external customers to coordinate and meet business, technical, and functional requirements in a highly-available, mission- critical database environment.
  • Coordinate the identification, implementation, and maintenance of processes, procedures and tools for database administration and information management
  • Work with multiple versions of database systems to support varied IT functions such as testing, reporting, training and others.
  • Collaborate with the development teams to support database code optimization and tuning of SQL, PL/SQL and other programming functions.
  • Provide prompt diagnosis and resolution of infrastructure issues that have an impact on critical and non-critical applications.
  • Understand corporate change management and security procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Prioritize and manage backlog work to address outstanding issues in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Ability to make timely recommendations to effectively solve problems, using independent judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and/or law.
  • Professionally exercises discretion and independent judgment in day-to-day work.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, (or 12 years relevant work experience equivalency, required)
  • At least eight years of related Information Technology experience (required)
  • Specific experience within any of the following:
  • Specific experience with Linux, Unix (AIX preferred), or Windows operating systems
  • Specific experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases required,
  • Specific experience with Open Source and NoSQL Database platforms preferred (MongoDB)
  • ITIL foundations certification preferred, understanding of ITIL required
  • Four years of database management and development experience, required
  • Previous energy industry experience (preferred)


Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge


TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES



  • Understanding NERC, FERC Regulatory Compliance Requirements
  • Administration skills on a variety of computer platforms (UNIX, Windows, LINUX)
  • Understanding CIP and SSAE 16 Regulatory Compliance Requirements
  • Ability to present complex data to groups of internal and external customers in a clear and concise manner
  • Administration skills on a variety of computer platforms (UNIX, Windows, LINUX)
