Reliability Team Software Engineer

As a software engineer for the reliability team at Waymo, you will understand and develop software across a broad range of products related to autonomous vehicles, sensors, test equipment, and data management. You will develop an understanding of the Google code management system and self-driving software architecture. You will work with cutting-edge self-driving sensor technology. There are opportunities to develop software for interfacing with multiple sensors, test them, and log the output data in a unified process. Your work will provide valuable datasets to design teams, will include analytics to highlight trends, track failures, and sync data with control and logging of powerful test equipment.

Key Job Responsibilities:

- Develop software infrastructure for hardware-in-the-loop system testing

- Work with reliability team to merge input from multiple teams into requirements and implement test logging

- Develop process and framework for hardware test software management

- Provide APIs for controlling test equipment and syncing equipment logs with self-driving technology

- Develop visualization tools to display equipment status and track large hardware fleet performance

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in electrical, software, or mechanical engineering

- 2+ years Software Engineer experience

- 2+ years each of C++ and Python with proficiency to write script

- 1 year minimum experience in automating hardware tests

- Able to self-direct for gathering and fulfilling requirements

- Proactive reporting and communication

- Experience controlling electromechanical hardware via software (either with firmware or supplied libraries)

- Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical fundamentals

- Database experience (e.g., SQL)

Nice to have skills:

- Graduate degree in electrical, software, or mechanical engineering (or equivalent)

- Experience in or exposure to reliability engineering

- Data visualization and analytics skills

- Mechatronics experience for controlling electromechanical devices

- Automotive experience is not required

- Participation in a product development cycle (concept, execution and deployment)
