Your Role and Responsibilities

Software Engineer - Hybrid Cloud Integration

IBM is the world leader in the space of Cloud Integration, with market-leading products in every segment. We are focused on the evolution of data integration within the private cloud and are seeking Software Engineers to join our development teams who are focused on our growing Integration and IBM Messaging portfolio and how it evolves to new platforms, including Red Hat OpenShift.

Positions are available in the following products:

  • IBM MQ is a robust messaging middleware that simplifies and accelerates the integration of diverse applications and business data across multiple platforms.
  • IBM Event Streams is an event-streaming platform based on Apache Kafka that helps you react to events in real time for more-engaging customer experiences.
We are particularly passionate about the evolution of private cloud and you should have a deep understanding and ideally experience of product development for container platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift or IBM Cloud Private.
Your responsibilities will include developing, testing and supporting code to evolve the above products.
Engineers that have been successful in this area typically have:
  • A solid software engineering background, good knowledge of cloud and container technologies such as Red Hat OpenShift or IBM Cloud Private
  • Knowledge of Apache Kafka (for the IBM Event Streams team)
  • Knowledge of Go, Java, Python or other scripting languages
  • Knowledge of Docker, Ansible, Jenkins, Travis and other cloud technologies such as Kubernetes and Helm
You are collaborative, able to handle responsibility and love learning new techniques and tools.
There is no requirement to be an expert in any one language, however, knowledge of Go, Java, Node.js or other scripting languages is important, as well as knowledge of Docker, Ansible, Jenkins, Travis and other cloud technologies such as Kubernetes and Helm.
The key requirement is to have a real passion for developing high-quality software.
Join a team that operates in a truly agile, continuous delivery model, utilizing the latest tools and technologies. When something isnt working, we fix it, improve it, and then apply the knowledge learned. Our team is highly collaborative and will provide you with great support through a pair-programming model and extensive experience of developing containerized and orchestrated cloud software.

Work Location: IBM's Hursley Laboratory location near Winchester.
You will be based in IBM's world-class facility in IBM Hursley Park, near Winchester. This is one of IBM's longest standing locations (recently celebrating 60 years), and one of the largest software development Labs in Europe.
Located in the Hampshire Countryside, and only 10 minutes from historic and bustling Winchester, Hursley boasts a 3000 people strong team of technologists working on a vast range of products and projects across the IBM portfolio.
The offices are nestled into private parkland and included among them is an original grand Queen Anne style country House, which forms an incredible backdrop for this established and respected community of technology experts.
Hursley receives continuous investment from IBM and the facilities on site include: a new gym, social areas, restaurant, games room, cafes, clubhouse and bar, sports fields, sports hall, tennis courts, all set in beautiful grounds, which are ideal for a walk at lunch or enjoying a picnic in the summer.

Locally, there are excellent schools and transport links including, Southampton and Portsmouth ports and Southampton Airport. London is a little over an hour away from Winchester Train station, and the New Forest is nearby.
Engagement is at the heart of being an IBMer, and at Hursley this is particularly apparent with the variety of opportunities to participate in clubs, projects, patenting, and community outreach. In fact, the culture of collaboration is why so many feel they belong here and find it such a fulfilling place to work.
Why not bring your whole self to work and grow your career in this lively, fun, and unique hotbed of talent and innovation?
