Summary: The Software Engineer is responsible for the assisting in the check-out of systems, programming and functional commissioning for the complete installation of building automation systems. Work under the supervision of the project manager to support the coordination of installation activities as well as providing and performing technical support for the system specialists (technicians). Possess the technical competence on all mechanical and electrical building systems as well as a complete understanding of the Alerton Technologies Building Automation System


Perform the functional checkout and commissioning of mechanical and electrical building systems that interface with the building automation system. This includes wiring between controllers, sensors, controlled devices, loading software, interfacing with third party systems. Calibrate systems requiring electronic test equipment, multi-meters, network terminals and a laptop computer. Properly maintain all company issued tools.

Utilize electrical, pneumatic and electronic technologies to meet the intention of the control specification.

Perform programming and develop graphics for the Operator Workstation. Verify that the software functions accurately and the graphics accurately depict the building systems.

Make use of existing system libraries to ensure the project is engineered and programmed with maximum efficiency and consistency.

Accountable to the Project Managers for quality, timeliness and efficiency of programming and graphics.

Effectively communicate project progress and issues to the project manager.

Complete all commissioning documentation, maintain accurate 'as-built' documentation. Ensure commissioning is performed in accordance with established standards.

Coordinate with installation contractors to ensure they are using proper installation materials and techniques. Answer any question to facilitate their productivity.

Communicate with the customer upon arriving and leaving the project site.

Perform customer training on the project site. Scope should include location of the building automation system components, reports, trending, alarming and general use of the operator workstation.

Perform system database back-ups on a daily basis.

Complete all paperwork such as timesheets, service tickets and on-site documentation.

Self-motivated to conduct self-study to improve competencies and technical proficiency of the Alerton system as well as building systems.


In-Depth knowledgeable of:

HVAC equipment Control Theory.

BACnet communications Protocol

Modbus communications Protocol

IT Networking

Working knowledge of:

Fire controls systems

Building Electrical systems; UPS, Emergency Generator, etc.

Lighting Systems

Understands electrical and electronic theory and system applications.

Skilled in the use of MS Windows and Office, MS Visio, SQL server, AutoCAD.

Able to visit job construction hardhat areas and climb stairs, work in tight spaces around pipes, ducts and fan systems.

Completed or will be able to successfully complete the OSHA 10 Hour training for construction sites.

Participates in and supports the company's drug-free work place program.
