The Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Senior SRE) will be instrumental in building modern services that will be utilized internally and will have the opportunity to contribute back to the open source community. From data center operations, application support to public cloud you will be a part of a team that will help strategize and deploy proven solutions with the experience for implementing cutting edge technology.

You will lead the design, implementation, integration, and daily operation of cloud infrastructure and services. Responsibilities include security, performance and scalability of our enterprise Azure platform, cloud services, private and public, through infrastructure as code and modern delivery. The Senior SRE plays a critical role in building infrastructure to enable the foundation to execute on its missions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Architect and design, implement and support IT solutions for the enterprise.
  • Provide engineering leadership to support projects including solution recommendation and documentation.
  • Manage IT performance and support IT monitor tools; monitor utilization trends; ensure maximum uptime; perform ongoing analysis, capacity planning, and technical tuning of the infrastructure and cloud systems to improve performance.
  • Provide vendor management, resource allocation, and budget, invoice, and/or billing reconciliation.
  • Create solution options that align IT services with mission, goals and objectives with consideration of both technical and non-technical implications and trade-offs. Follow foundation architecture best practices, adhering to standard activities and deliverables for project solutions.
  • Guide the development and implementation of business solutions across multiple projects. Provide direction to technical teams during project delivery. May validate and approve the deliverables of the technical team.

  • Ability to create clear strategies, policies, procedures and system documentation.
  • Expertise of cloud computing and services at scale on Azure
  • Expert knowledge of technology subject matter and interdependencies between infrastructure and systems
  • Systematic approach to diagnose system problems: identify, locate, resolve, and repair problems
  • Containerization support for either Docker or Kubernetes
  • Relevant experience with Infrastructure as Code
  • Terraform/ARM definitions for cloud resources
  • Configuration management
  • Relevant experience with CI/CD best practices
  • Relevant experience with internet protocols (eg HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP)
  • Source control through Git
  • Full Stack engineering experience
  • Programming and Scripting languages such as Java, Go, Python, Bash, Ruby, Powershell

Decision-Making Responsibilities

Typically make decisions:

  • Defining technical approach for a suite of applications supporting a line of business
  • Directing own day-to-day work
  • Prioritizing work of project technical team members
  • Approval of technical deliverables created by onshore and offshore teams, to adhere to established technical standards and design patterns
  • Evaluation and recommendation of new application development tools

Provide input to the following decisions:

  • Estimating the quantity and type of resources required for an effort
  • Estimating project release timelines
  • Updating or revising technical standards

Examples of Problem Solving Skills Required

Problems are complex and require research and careful review of options.

Examples include:

  • Combining a core set of solution architecture design artifacts with enterprise architecture and design best practices to effectively guide infrastructure design, automation, deployment, ongoing performance and continued evolution of the service portfolio.
  • Resolving issues related to the business and technology requirements and providing recommendations on alternative solutions and corrective actions.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree, with a degree in computer science or related field desired.
  • A minimum 7 years of IT infrastructure, cloud, software experience with:
  • 3 years of solution and infrastructure design on Azure
  • 5 years hands-on technology implementation in relevant technology stacks
