The Senior Desktop Engineer is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and operating systems of physical and virtual desktops in support of business requirements. Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and specific layered software packages. Creates/maintains desktop images. Conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. Provide status reports, problem summaries, and project status to supervisor as required.


  1. Identifies deficiencies of both technical issues and business processes, elevates risk to team lead and/or reporting management, and propose innovative solutions.
  2. Work alongside business operations teams, project management teams, and additional IT teams to coordinate work efforts and establish processes.
  3. Perform system software and hardware upgrades and changes; including planning, scheduling, testing, and coordination.
  4. Monitor, measure, and test current\new infrastructure products and services.
  5. Perform operational, project, and support tasks with little to no supervision, while meeting or exceeding SLAs and performance expectations.
  6. Develop and ensure deployment documentation such as design and environment specifications, user and technical manuals, and process documentation.
  7. Track workload, assign tasks, and mentor junior team members when appropriate.

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • Associate degree in Computer Science or similar field. Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Eight years experience in Information Technology field; Five years experience in the field of Desktop Engineering required.
  • Microsoft SCCM, SCEP, SCOM, or MDT servers and functions experience required.
  • Citrix Xendesktop, Citrix Xenapp, and VDI servers and functions experience required.
  • Experience with the following required:

    1. Application packaging standards
    2. Image management standards
    3. Security hardening technologies and concepts
    4. Active Directory group policy standards
    5. Networking concepts (DHCP, VLANs, ACLs, Firewalls, etc)
    6. Proven experience with project management and process improvement
    7. ITIL concepts and processes (change management, quality testing, SLAs)

  • Enterprise experience required/
  • Citrix Certified Engineer - Virtualization is preferred.
  • Microsoft MCSE is preferred.
  • Proven engineer experience: research, analysis, planning, and implementation.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to handle shifting priorities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to mentor engineers is required. (negotiation, team-building, positive thinking, can-do attitude, and job flexibility)
  • Must be an assertive team player with positive attitude and high energy level.
  • Able to participate in after-hours on-call activities.
