Our client has a 6+ month contract-to-hire opportunity for a Scrum Master in Rancho Cordova, CA.

General Summary

Under general direction, the Scrum Master provides leadership, guidance and coaching to their teams. Responsible for ensuring scrum team efficiency and that sprint and project goals are accomplished. Facilitates cross-team coordination. Guides the team to identify risks and impediments and then works within the team and across teams to resolve or remove impediments. Tracks and reports on team level metrics. Facilitates transparency and accountability within the team. Provides metrics and transparency to leadership.

Essential Functions

Lead and assist two or more scrum teams through the agile process and ceremonies: backlog grooming, sprint planning, daily standup meetings, retrospectives, and sprint reviews.

Ensure scrum teams are practicing the core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability and transparency by facilitating scrum processes and ceremonies,and soliciting support from management when necessary to achieve team and sprint goals.

Deflect team distractions and facilitate removing impediments to help the delivery teams meet their sprint commitments, escalating to functional manager when necessary.

Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress; Generate process reports indicating velocity, burn-down, etc. Maintain relevant metrics that will allow teams and management to evaluate how scrum teams are progressing.

Ensure that the team works collaboratively; demonstrated by a self-organizing team collaborating with product owner and toward achieving the overall sprint goal of delivering a potentially shippable product.Partner with the product owner for release planning and backlog maintenance.

Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.

Assess the scrum maturity of the team and coach the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.Encourage team member participation in ceremonies, so as to build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing, problem solving and producing results.

Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.Partner with other scrum masters and LOB project managers in creating and delivering information at appropriate level for audience, including presentations and status updates.

Partner with scrum team members and functional manager to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

Manage dependencies between assigned scrum team and third parties or between assigned scrum team and other scrum teams.

Proactively improve our processes, practices, metrics, and tools with a focus on consistent delivery of high quality products.

Adapt scrum process to date driven/project based releases as necessary.

Ensure team goes through sprints including scrum ceremonies with the objective of producing a potentially shippable product, and establishes achievable goals with necessary acceptance criteria. Facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.

Partner with the product owner for release planning and backlog maintenance. Support and educate the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog.

Drive best practices in the use of the Agile methodology.

Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I)

Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc

Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency

Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous burndown techniques, numerous retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc)

Ability to regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of his/her job duties.
