Contract position: IMMEDIATE NEED .....EPC client is looking for a Corporate Office based Construction Safety Specialist/Coordinator for a Temp to Perm opportunity in Houston, TX. You need 5-10 years of relevant construction safety experience supporting large, heavy industrial construction projects. Client prefers candidates local to the Houston, TX area.

Responsibilities for the Safety Engineer

  • Responsible for supporting the implementation & management of Company HSE Programs for all phases of construction and commissioning including preparation of project specific HSE documentation
  • This position requires a lot of safety documentation responsibilities and you must have a strong attention to detail as you will be adjusting procedures to apply specifically to new jobs before they start, modify docs and SOP
  • Promote, practice and implements all aspects of an incident and injury free work place in accordance with corporate strategic objectives and policies
  • Support Corporate HSE initiatives such as implementation of the BeSafe behavior based safety program and company Golden Rules of Safety
  • Conduct Risk Assessments, evaluate and recommend controls for hazardous working conditions and/or unsafe employee acts
  • Audit projects for HSE compliance and conformance and follow up and track findings as necessary
  • Support compliance with incident investigation and reporting procedures and assist with incident investigations and ensure appropriate corrective and preventative actions are identified, implemented and effective prior to closure in accordance with the ISO 9001 QMS
  • Evaluate and perform EHS manpower planning (PEP-Resourcing) for the construction projects as needed
  • Ensure all construction HSE incidents including near misses, medical treatment cases, & recordable incidents are recorded in the internal reporting tool
  • Evaluate construction HSE performance and provide guidance on trends and loss rates

Requirements for the Safety Engineer

  • 5+ years industry related safety experience in an office environment as well as on heavy industrial construction sites is needed
  • Some specific experience in heavy industrial construction is strongly preferred
  • You need to be willing to travel some of the time to visit project sites to do accident investigation
  • You need a BS Degree in Safety Engineering or related discipline or equivalent combination of education, technical training and/or industry related safety experience
  • Any Safety & Health certifications or degrees are considered a PLUS (GSP, ASP, CHST or CSP designation)
  • You must know OSHA, ISO 14001 for documentation and doc control management
  • You must be strong in MS Excel and tracking KPI's
