Introduction


Your Role and Responsibilities
At IBM Research Brazil, we are looking for highly qualified Master/Ph.D. candidates (software engineers and scientists) for a Research Staff Member position. Candidates must have interest in exploring and prototyping novel systems and techniques and have strong track record of research publications in areas related to advancing artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, visual analytics, optimization, and cloud services. IBM Research Brazil was established in 2010, with locations in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Our research is particularly focused on applying these technical and scientific advancements to better manage natural resources such as oil and gas and digital agriculture. We collaborate with leading organizations in a variety of industries as well as IBM experts from around the globe to create and deploy transformative technology solutions within our region and the whole world.

A successful candidate is expected to pursue a research career at IBM Research where he/she publishes papers regularly in top-quality journals and conferences, produces patents as well as other intellectual property assets and contributes to projects with significant impact to IBM business. Good communication skills and interest in solving real world problems are expected. International research experience and/or demonstrated participation in multi-disciplinary research work is a plus.
The candidate may be involved in engineering those efforts to an advanced state of feasibility by evaluating ideas and plans and participating in their implementation. Required core competencies include a demonstration of success in research with an excellent publication record in top conferences and journals. A PhD and/or MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Cognitive Sciences is required as well as fluency in English.
