Permanent position: Relay Field Service Technician opportunity with a client located in the Charlotte, NC area for someone that has experience supervising and performing work in utility substations. This is a salary non-exempt position with overtime typically available. Bonus and pay increase opportunity with each NETA certification level increase. Company car, laptop, and cell phone provided. Client has a great benefits package to include profit sharing. Relocation assistance will be considered for eligible candidates

Responsibilities for the Relay Technician
  • Provide on-site project coordination & commissioning services associated with protective relay modernization
  • Replacement / upgrade of protective relaying systems, substation integration & automation systems, substation control systems and remote terminal unit (RTU) equipment
  • Testing the protective functions of protective relaying systems and verifying protective relay logic through the function testing of the relaying systems
  • Reviewing / updating electrical drawings and writing outage / cut-over plans and functional test plans
  • Applying settings to protective relaying systems (does not include generating the settings or logic) and testing the protective functions of protective relaying systems
  • Configuring integration & automation systems and remote terminal units as well as performing a point-by- point checkout of all SCADA points to appropriate control center
  • Other duties as typical and requiredRequirements for the Relay Technician

    • BSEE/BSEET OR Graduate of applicable Electrical Technical School or Military equivalent
    • Strong background and experience in most types of switchgear testing through the 230 kV class and utility grade power transformers up through 500 KV class
    • Knowledge of & experience with the setting & testing of Schweitzer Engineering Labs (SEL) microprocessor-based protective relaying and automation and automation systems
    • Thorough knowledge of electrical apparatus testing with a strong theoretical understanding of electrical power systems, and good aptitude for problem evaluation
    • Communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, with clients, peers and management
    • Current NETA level 2 or greater certification is a plus and will pay accordingly
    • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% and work weekends and some overtime as neededBenefits
