Draper is seeking a highly-qualified engineer to lead the "Precision Navigation" group , a group of 15+ Technical Staff members and Group students focused on the application of high precision navigation algorithms and technology to customer challenges for a range of air, space, land, and sea applications.  Key navigation capabilities of the group include high precision inertial navigation, GNSS, celestial navigation and robust multi-sensor navigation.  Experience with several of the following is essential: inertial sensing systems, instrument modeling, estimation theory including Kalman filter implementation and tuning, integrated GPS navigation (including loosely, tightly and ultra-tight coupled  implementations) as well as advanced navigation concepts.


Specific responsibilities include: (1) oversight of the quality of execution of projects in the Group, (2) personnel resource planning for the Group, (3) the development of the Group's Strategic Plans and Technology Roadmap, (4) the development, growth, and maturation of the Group's technical capabilities, and (5) the development of new technology, via external contracts and internal funding.


  • Position requires an M.S. or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent with proven experience in team and/or technology leadership for at least 10 years. 
  • The Group Leader must be performance driven, a self-starter and have demonstrated consistently outstanding performance in his/her career. 
  • The ability to work within a team environment is a must. 
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to Top Secret classified information.
