Your Role and Responsibilities

A candidate for consideration for the IBM Systems Group Power Integrity Development Engineer involves ownership of the Power Delivery Subsystem. Opportunity to drive industry leading technology and work with world class experts in the field of power conversion and delivery technology. Responsibility spans from inception to product field support. This position requires strong knowledge in analog, digital, thermal, reliability and optimized pc board layout; with a high level of analysis and design skills.

The Power Integrity Development engineer is responsible for the accuracy of the design and functional implementation of power delivery guaranteeing meeting performance specifications. Included in this role is development of verification plans and execution of those plans to ensure functionality to specifications and the overall quality. Experience with frequency domain and time domain simulation is recommended and preferred.

In addition to demonstrated technical knowledge, the ideal candidate should demonstrate interpersonal communication, creative problem solving, and team building skills. Candidate must be able to identify issues, develop and execute action plans, and react quickly to changing requirements. The position involves working within our team and across multiple organizations.

Furthermore, a candidate for the Power Integrity Engineer shall have strong analytical skills involved in the design, meeting of specifications, and optimizing the required Power Delivery required to insure world class CPU and system performance.
The deep understanding is based on strong analysis and simulation capabilities that are correlated with lab measurements once hardware is available that insure accuracy. System design tradeoffs must be considered including changes to printed wiring board traces, or bill-of-materials BOM alternatives identified in pursuit of making performance requirements. Must be capable to describe both the DC, current density, and high frequency characteristics. Understanding how each link in the power delivery chain contribute the desired frequency response is paramount.

Job Duties

  • Perform electrical analysis on card and substrate packages.
  • Analysis includes DC and frequency/time domain analysis across single card and system level card network.
  • Verify DC and transient excitations meet system components' tolerance requirements.

Required Professional and Technical Expertise

Technical skills required include:
  • 5+ years of experience with Cadence PCB Editor
  • 5+ years of experience with Cadence/Sigrity PowerDC
  • 5+ years of experience with PowerSI
  • 5+ years of experience with OptimizePI
  • 5+ years of experience with Synopsys Hspice and/or Simplis spice network tools
  • Lab experience includes basic soldering skills, oscilloscope, current probe and electronic loads
Non-technical skills include:
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Strong communication skills and ability to understand/negotiate product requirements.
  • Skill working with internal development teams and external suppliers.
  • Written skills to document/explain test results using Microsoft office (Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Allegro Constraint Manager
  • TCL/UNIX shell programming
