Job Description

The Application System Engineer is a versatile and highly motivated individual who supplies front line technical application and infrastructure support. As a Application System Engineer, you will be responsible for all escalations related to technical support for production issues impacting application and data avilability impacting business and system consumers. Being a vital part of the Production Support team involves working on highly complex systems and providing general technology support services for both web and data management applications. The team member will ensure overall customer satisfaction and total resolution of each incident. Your role as a support professional will be as a central figure supplying technical expertise on behalf of WBT core services applications as well as to other WBT Core Services team members.

The Primary objective of this role is to be a key lead in the maintenance and support of several key Data Distribution and Data Quality services as part of the WBT Coreservices Platform and application support team.

This includes the support of the following key enterprise initiatives:
Safety & Soundness (vulnerability management, Tech refresh and Oracle Exadata database migration, Identity and Access management).
Lights on Production support and key systems maintenance (patching/access management, change and release coordination and communication)
A successful candidate will have a strong understanding of ITIL best practices that lead to a stable production environment, good knowledge of relevant technologies and monitoring tools, and the ability to work with project managers and development teams providing key technical support leadership when required. This is a very challenging environement. Applications in this space are undergoing a lot of change due to multiple efforts going on simultaneously. The role is hands-on and will get involved in technical intricacies to assist team in problem resolution needed to meeting commited timelines.

Job Responsibilities include:
Troubleshooting complex software application issues. Issues to be resolved require a broad range of troubleshooting skills related to: software functionality, application server setup, database management, data analysis, and third party products (Integration Services, Informatica, Autosys, NDM, Oracle, Redhat Jboss and Tomcat app servers)
Providing client management services inclusive of excellent communications, responsive follow through, and advocacy for client issues within internal departments. The Production Support Engineer will analyze trends associated with the customer base and report potential areas of risk or reward to Production Support Management.
Prioritizing numerous issues of varying severity, and effectively manage the resolution of all issues within accepted service levels.
Collaborating extensively with peers, Business Analysts, Operations Staff and Development to resolve client issues while actively contributing to a growing knowledge network that improves the effectiveness of our team and the information available to our Partners.
First level system administration of client environments including: Tracking all changes and working with our internal teams to ensure optimal performance and response times.
Identify and implement continuous improvements to the team's production processes.
Maintain knowledge and technical expertise of current production best practices tools and techniques and implement them in a reasonable and responsible manner.
Coordinate, implement and test vulnerability remediations in all production and non production environments.
Minimize overall production risks while maximizing productivity.
Lead, develop and mentor junior members of the Production team.



Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of application development and implementation experience
  • 4+ years of data analysis experience
  • 2+ years of Incident Management System experience
  • 3+ years of Configuration Management Tools experience
  • 4+ years of Informatica experience
  • 2 + years of experience writing relational database queries for stored procedures, query optimization and performance tuning
  • 4+ years of experience with databases such as Oracle, DB2, SQL server, or Teradata

  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Linux experience
  • Ability to interact with a diverse team
  • Knowledge and understanding of application profiling and performance tuning of highly scalable and available systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of multiple source code version control systems in working with branches, tags and labels
  • Knowledge and understanding of technology middleware: performance tuning and analyze bottlenecks
  • Knowledge and understanding of web systems: performance tuning
  • Outstanding problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Application production support experience



Other Desired Qualifications
  • BS/BA degree or higher in computer science or technology
