Your Role and Responsibilities



Performance and Capacity Management (PCM) provides services aligned to two competencies, Performance Managementand Capacity Management.

The duties and responsibilities of the Capacity Manager include:
  • Assess, review, forecast and monitor capacity and resource utilisation aspects of infrastructure

  • Define the business and technology metrics appropriate and necessary to forecast the resource requirements for clients

  • Build, maintain and control documentation that accurately reflects capacity baselines

  • Identify cross platform/application impacts

  • Determine most appropriate projection methodology and estimate resources

  • Develop and maintain Capacity Plans, including workload balancing options, recommended solutions, financial metrics, assumptions and technology refresh plans

  • Maximise capacity resource utilisation to best meet service levels, achieve cost/profit targets, exploit technology and operate cohesively

  • Plan and manage capacity upgrades, downgrades, technology refresh and new technology projects to meet agreed dates and service targets

  • Provide technical and business advice to account teams to support effective decision making

  • Provide capacity management advice and guidance for IT solutions

  • Consult with Solution Designers, System support teams, Database Administrators and Application teams on system, database and application solution design

  • Review capacity aspects of proposed solutions and planned changes

  • Assess pre/post production impacts of changes

  • Define and establish performance and capacity data collection requirements.




Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Performance and/or Capacity Management (Midrange)

  • Statistical Analysis Techniques

  • Knowledge of Midrange virtualisation hardware VMware Compute, Storage, Backup

  • Knowledge of Midrange systems software VMware, Unix, Windows, Linux

  • Knowledge of Midrange PCM software ITM/TDW/TCR, VROps

  • Microsoft Office Suite specifically Excel and Word

  • ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) standards

  • Business Analysis & Process Improvement




Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

Candidates should be able to demonstrate proficiency and/or experience in several of the following areas:

  • Performance management in a virtualised midrange environment.
  • Capacity management experience in a virtualised midrange environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of zOS and ZLinux operating systems, databases, application systems, associated storage and backup.
  • Knowledge of zOS and ZLinux virtualisation
  • Expertise in using capacity and performance analysis tools, models and reporting infrastructure, especially SQL, DB2and the ITM monitoring suite.
  • Ability to consider performance and capacity aspects of business solutions including technical infrastructure, tools and labour costs.
  • Adept in statistical techniques.
  • Recognizes capacity and performance problems during analysis of measurement and/or test data and able to make appropriate recommendations.
  • Updatecapacity plan with analysis and recommendations.
  • Present capacity plan to customer.
