  • Senior DBA responsible for overall support, management, tuning, backup, recoverability, and documentation of all production, QA and development environments.
  • Administration includes: Writing scripts to report and monitor error conditions, responding to outages and OS Systems administration as required, performance monitoring, capacity planning, data integrity, and selection and evaluation of tools/products related to database/web site administration and development.
  • Project management of departmental and enterprise DB projects
  • Complex database design, testing, debugging, problem analysis, recovery and documentation.
  • Work in Linux on multiple RDBMS and DB technologies including Oracle, Oracle RAC, MySQL, Postgres, MS SQLserver, FileMaker Pro, Hadoop.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and technical leadership in database technology, best practices, quality assurance reviews and software product evaluations.
  • Develop sustainable and extensible shared support models and infrastructure for database services to the PHS R&D environment.
  • Work within a focused team to support all aspects of computing infrastructure for biomedical research and most closely with the senior informatics specialist on database-related scientific computing projects.
  • Work closely with and provide the corporate interface for Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute researchers, faculty and technical staff on technical solutions regarding complex projects to support cutting edge research.


Requirements



  • Minimum MS in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience required.
  • 6+ years of IT experience
  • 5+ years management of production and development RDBMS's in a distributed environment (including, at minimum, Oracle, and preferably MySQL, PostgreSQL, Filemaker and MS SQL Server) on Linux systems and some Windows.
  • 3+ years' experience supporting databases in a biological, medical, or basic science research and development environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting database components of 3rd-party and open-source applications.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC.
  • Systems administration including scripting preferred.
  • DBA certifications in Oracle and/or Microsoft Systems a plus.
  • A combination of education and experience may be substituted for requirements
