MDM Architecture Manager Overview

Manages, plans and administers the operational and administrative activities of the Master Data Management (MDM) Systems Architecture section. Plans and schedules the development, introduction, communication and maintenance of the corporate systems architecture including the applications, data, and infrastructure architectures and assures that this architecture is integrated with the business area architectures. May organize and control the activities of the section, may assign personnel to the various projects and may direct their activities. Requires excellent planning, conceptual, consulting and communication skills, analytical ability, strong judgment and management skills, and the ability to interact with senior business area and IT management and staff solutions. Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and typically eight to ten years of experience.


  • Define and develops strategic architectural frameworks and MDM/CRM capability roadmaps; lead the execution plan for the strategic technical roadmap

    • Responsible for communication of the architectural strategy with enterprise architecture, business stakeholders, IT delivery partners, and IT Operations/Infrastructure teams

  • Collaborate with business, enterprise architecture and other technical partners to ensure design and development patterns are appropriate and extensible
  • Supports business and product delivery partners in successful build, test, and release of solutions while ensuring adherence to the Enterprise Architecture direction and strategies
  • Analyzes and understand impact and business system -level interdependencies
  • Establish appropriate use of architectural patterns for a project
  • Supports design and development of complex enterprise solutions on JVM-hosted environments
  • Works with distributed requirements and technical stakeholders to complete shared design and development, ensuring consistency of approach and facilitating resolution of cross-team issues and dependencies
  • Supports SAFe/Agile principles and ceremonies in design and full life cycle development, including publishing design documentation and making key/strategic design decisions for technology, structure, and the configuration and testing of MDM systems and solutions
  • Develop and enforces coding standards, technical documentation and code reviews, establishes processes for code management, release management and migration
  • Understands and deploys optimal development methodology approaches to meet enterprise needs (Scaled Agile Framework, Agile, etc.)
  • Architect for performance and scalability, utilizing best practices to recognize scalability and performance issues
  • Support technical and functional data requirements mapping, data governance activities, data integration, data quality for Master Data Management (MDM) strategies
  • Demonstrates capability to understand and incorporate evolving factors into the data design including security, performance, connectivity, ease of use, metadata, etc.

General Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of IT application and enterprise systems architecture experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting computing applications in large-scale, mainframe, midrange, and distributed environment as an Architect.
  • Proven experience in architecture/design of Enterprise Service Bus /SOA, Web API and data integration solutions
  • Critical thinker - Able to integrate company goals and objectives into department goals and activities/communications -can work with a "blank sheet" of paper.
  • Detailed oriented, excellent ability to multi-task: addressing critical daily issues as well as keeping focus on strategic tasks
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and work effectively with diverse groups of peers and business partners.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making and ability to think strategically and implement iteratively.

- Proven track record of success in challenging the status quo, implementing new ideas and designs with a practical orientation.

  • Experience creating benchmark tests, designing for scalability and performance, and designing/integrating large-scale systems

  • Experience in building software 'product', with the intention of transition to others for support and further evolution (including documentation, complete tooling/instrumentation, etc.)
  • Experience designing and building n-tier architecture-based applications with direct involvement in each tier: mainframe, midrange, and desktop.
  • Experience with enterprise JVM-based solutions (J2EE, Spring)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of web service/API design and implementation
  • Experience in data design and alignment of persisted data models to 'over the wire' data models
  • Experience in REST/RPC/SOAP-based data exchange paradigms as well as relevant governance patterns (registry/repository, service documentation, QoS/SLA conformance measurement, etc.)
  • Decent understanding of network layers (OSI) and common communication protocols (HTTP, TCP, SMTP, etc.)
  • Proficient unit testing, test-driven development (TDD), and continuous integration/build/automated regression test
  • Open source savvy, possessing practical implementation experience using common open source libraries/frameworks.
  • Ability to estimate level of effort and resource impact of design/architecture alternatives.

Desirable Technical Qualifications

- Knowledge of Master Data Management concepts & methodologies and ability to apply this knowledge in building MDM solutions.

- Experience in MDM architecture (IBM Initiate Systems as well as the InfoSPhere technology stack).

  • Design experience in the development of interface contracts between applications, services, external vendors, and workflow processes.

- Understand mediation design and tools such as XSLT, WESB, Message Broker

- Background in systems architecture technologies and practices, including portal technologies, high availability design, internet security, identity management, web and application server environments, session management, transaction management, middleware messaging, content management, COBOL, and J2EE.

- Knowledge of application development utilizing the ETL (Extract/Transform/Load) tools (DataStage preferred).

- Experience and knowledge with Oracle Database and relational database design.

- Experience using many of the following technologies:

  • Experience with Healthcare integration standards (HL7, IHE profiles, etc.) are desirable
  • Layered architecture, components and interfaces
  • Languages: Java, JavaScript
  • Development Environments: Eclipse, IntelliJ
  • Middleware: MQSeries, MessageBroker
  • Databases: Oracle, SQL Server, and stored procedures, Hadoop
  • Application Servers: IBM WebSphere, Fuse , EAP
  • Enterprise architectures with connections to others systems using COM, DCOM, CORBA
  • Architectural Design using Visio, UML diagrams and Use Case documentation
  • Experience using distributed technologies, Enterprise JavaBeans, Servlets, JSP, JMS, JDBC
  • Advanced Web Services Skills: SOAP, UDDI, XML, WSDL
