Primary Function:


The RAMP division is a quickly expanding business that leverages proprietary processes and technologies to provide prototype and low-volume production parts. The Materials Manager will manage material, shop capacity planning, and forecasting to ensure RAPID delivery success to end customer. This role is responsible for the efficient movement of all raw, in-process and finished goods material throughout the RAMP machining facility. Position will have leadership responsibility for shipping and materials handling staff and will eventually have purchasing responsibility for raw material, component parts and MRO purchasing within RAMP. The chosen candidate will have excellent communication skills, coordinating with many departments and thinking tactically about flow of jobs through the RAMP process.


Duties and Responsibilities


Material:



  • Implement and improve inventory control system for raw material, purchased goods, fixtures, and other MRO
  • Manage purchasing process, including on-hand inventory and consigned material
  • Engage in forward planning for material availability with outside vendors
  • Optimize material flow throughout manufacturing floor
  • Implement and manage material handling best practices (raw sick, WIP and finished goods)
  • Review assistive devices to aid material flow process
  • Develop and execute plan to onboard material, MRO, supply purchasing
  • Manage material staging area to ensure organization and ease of use
  • Perform frequent inventory counts to verify stock levels
  • Coordinate material acquisition with Director of Purchasing using forecast tools
  • Collaborate with operations leadership to ensure material needs are satisfied
  • Manage material flow from receiving through initial stages of manufacturing
  • Develop strategies to minimize shipping costs


Planning :



  • Optimize lead time for material prep process
  • Confirm RAMP can meet customer delivery commitments by reviewing incoming orders against capacity tools
  • Measure and report on shop production mix daily (RAPID dot system)
  • Coordinate any special customer requirements (ex. Hardware, plating, paperwork) with operations leadership
  • Perform post-quote and post-manufacturing check step to evaluate profitability of parts
  • Recommend increases in capacity timing based on incoming demand and capacity targets
  • Coordinate assembly costing and logistics to ensure items arrive to meet customer delivery date
  • Perform "make vs. buy" analysis on material prep process


Customer Service/Expediting :



  • Work closely with customer service group to confirm RAMP can manufacture to customer need dates
  • Oversee shipping department (including Receiving, Shipping, outside processes)
  • Manage material handlers and prep operators
  • Review schedule with operations leadership daily and ensure on time delivery to customer
  • Assist Operations in prioritizing jobs, based on scope of work remaining
  • Ensure parts are moving through RAMP facility in timely fashion to meet customer commitment
  • Utilize forecasting tools to mitigate bottlenecks and constraints throughout manufacturing process
  • Integrate with sales, business development and operations to alert/modify expedited delivery requests
  • Drive RMA prioritization within shop

Experience and Background



  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in materials management/scheduling within job shop or high volume manufacturing environment
  • Machining/Machined parts experience a plus
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts and implementation processes
  • Experience optimizing material workflow
  • Familiarity with purchasing and material traceability
  • Demonstrated history managing off-site supplier base and AVL
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with operational leadership role
  • BA/BS in Business, Materials, or Technical discipline
  • Understanding of job shop ERP systems (Jobboss or similar)
  • Ability to navigate multitude of software applications
