This is an exciting role to help drive the growth of the Discover Personal Loans business. As Manager, Business Development, you will lead growth and partnership initiatives from ideation to execution. It is a multi-faceted role that requires a strategic mindset to effectively evaluate new opportunities and then the leadership and project management know- how to drive those opportunities to new partnerships and businesses. This is a high-profile position with frequent interactions with senior leaders of the organization looking to you for recommendations on how to best build and grow the business, and then to do just that.

Responsible for ensuring the product suite meets the needs of our customers and our business objectives. Researches and develops initiatives for product development and process enhancements. Works cross-functionally to execute these initiatives. Collaborates with impacted business areas to develop business cases and project proposals to initiate strategic projects and process improvements. Responsible for pricing strategies, including developing models, market and competitive analysis, recommending rates, and monitoring origination results for all products to ensure rates remain competitive to drive volume while meeting return expectations.


  • Assess and provide recommendations on partnership opportunities, including development of business cases with lens towards the strategic fit for the organization.

  • Lead all elements of Point of Sale launch strategy and execution, including market assessment, partner evaluation, technology implementation, and results measurement.

  • Identify and liaise with new partners to grow the home improvement loan segment.

  • Serve as point person for negotiation of business terms and contracts with potential and existing partners.

  • Manage external technology partners to deliver product and technology roadmaps to expand into new businesses, including Point of Sale.

  • Work closely with internal Project Management and Business Technology teams to develop requirements and implement new products and partnerships.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Finance, Risk, and Analytics to evaluate partnership potential and profitability.

  • Present frequently to senior leaders of the organization with recommendations for potential and ongoing business development opportunities.

  • Interface with Legal and Compliance teams to meet all regulatory requirements for new products and partnerships.

  • Promote a risk-aware culture, ensuring efficient and effective risk and compliance practices by adhering to required standards and processes.

  • Develops, manages and reviews shared communications plans, implementation plans, and risk logs to track progress and mitigate risk to implementations.

  • Acts as the business sponsor on initiatives and product enhancements to ensure correct interpretation of the product construct and features to drive achievement of business objectives and customer satisfaction.

  • Collaborates with business partners and leadership across corporate functions such as business development, operations, technology, marketing, finance, and risk management to lead and manage project planning, progress reporting, quality assurance, risk mitigation, communication, and implementation management.

  • Meets with department heads, managers, supervisors, vendors, and others to solicit cooperation and resolve problems.

  • Conducts market, competitive, and consumer research to understand product demand and competitive position.

  • Champions initiatives through a governance process and work with other areas, such as compliance to adhere to standards and policies.

  • Oversees and coordinates work performed by internal and external impacted parties.

    Evaluates product performance and recommend improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here's what we need from you:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in product development, financial services, customer experience, pricing, modeling
  • In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of experience in product development, financial services, customer experience, pricing, modeling
