Manager IT (Operations Lead)

Manages a team responsible for developing and implementing protocols that comply with established policies, procedures and standards of the specified area of IT. Effectively collaborates with other members of the team, customers and/or stakeholders to align work efforts, develop/execute tactical plans that enable successful business operations. Actively collaborates across IT and business areas within area of specified responsibility to ensure successful results of designated initiatives are achieved. Ensures accurate accounting of and appropriate deployment of resources. Outcomes managed have an impact on the specified area of responsibility.

As a hands-on Operations Lead and Production Support, you will assume a key role in the day-to-day production operations and production support for the RunOps function within the Walgreen’s Pharmacy Renewal program. As a hands-on candidate, you will be responsible for managing a team of associates and/or contractors, assigned tasks, the on-call escalation, service continuity and requests for immediate production or client assistance. In addition, you will work closely with Product Strategy, Development, DevOps, Integration and other technology and business groups to help develop processes and operating procedures. You will also monitor and triage and investigate issues and help resolve problems. This is a high performance culture and you must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently and quickly in supporting critical systems.

Job Responsibilities
  • Hands-on technical is a must.
  • Act as the escalation point for production support to help diagnose and resolve complex customer issues at the Pilot stores in a Production environment.
  • Help resolve operational issues by determining root cause and appropriate long term solution. Collaborate with other groups and coordinate meetings and calls to determine root cause and appropriate long term solution.
  • Manage team of high performing members, setting clear expectations for and providing timely feedback on individual and team performance, and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Oversee and ensure the integrity of production systems on a day-to-day basis to ensure uninterrupted services and meeting SLAs.
  • Help implement tools for continuous deployment and application monitoring. Automate deployment strategies and post-deployment testing to support quick turnaround of deployments.
  • Work closely with Monitoring Engineering to ensure all relevant KPI’s are implemented within the monitoring framework. Work closely with Monitoring Engineering to improve alerts system and processes.
  • Possibly maintain the Lower Environments in addition to Production – upkeep of application functionality, configurations. Help perform code installations working with DevOps, Development and Quality Engineering to monitor and validate successful implementation and/or fallback. Document installs defects and assigns severities to the problems that occur. When fallback occurs, perform post mortems to identify root cause (RCA).
  • Participate in all Production Support activities during incidents and outages.
  • Hands-on technical resource capable of resolving a variety of technical issues within Lower and Upper environments, and making recommendation for performance and capacity improvements.
  • Continuously recommend improvements to our infrastructure to be easy to deploy, scalable, secure and fault-tolerant.
  • Participate in capacity planning, tuning systems stability, provisioning, performance, and scaling of the application infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and participate on-call rotation with extended team.
  • Manages the daily operational activities that develop and implement tactical plans for multiple components/processes for a specified area within IT. Develops protocols to support established standards. Oversees team(s) assigned to projects and may manage implementations. Ensures resources are accurately allocated in line with tactical plans and appropriately accounted for at all times.
  • Performs as subject matter advisor and may serve as point of escalation and become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems highly complex in nature. Manages issues proactively, including timely resolution and the identification of remediation opportunities. Identifies and resolve systemic issues to prevent them from repeating.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years of experience in IT, Accounting, Finance, Consulting, Strategy and/or Analytics OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 8 years of experience in IT, Accounting, Finance, Consulting, Strategy and/or Analytics.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • Experience analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
  • Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • At least 2 years of experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other team members.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required (10 years professional experience in lieu of degree)
  • Combined 7 years of experience in application development (full stack, preferably –familiar with all layers in computer software development) and production support.
  • Experience transitioning teams to an Agile Framework is a definite plus.
  • Experience leading a production support team.
  • Experience working with JIRA, Dynatrace, Camunda, Chef, Bamboo, Tuxedo, Git, Bitbucket, Maven, Artifactory, Cloud Computing.
  • Experience with Java, Oracle databases, Red Hat, JBoss, Apache, SAG, Docker.Bachelor's Degree in IT, IS, Mathematics.
  • Must be hands-on technical.
  • Experience in Agile and DevOps environments and cultures.
  • Must have full life-cycle development experience in a technology driven environment, preferably in healthcare –or highly transactional environment.
  • Experienced working in an Internet and distributed client server environment, including strong understanding of multi-tier architecture and infrastructure setups.
  • Experience with Automation Deployment and Automation Pipeline.
  • Experience supporting production environments and providing Root Cause Analysis and Resolution.
