Responsible for the continued management, best-practice operations, uptime, and support of data center compute & storage. Leverages extensive experience, industry best practices, and vendor relationships to ensure the continued stability and availability of the data center compute & storage platforms to enable the company's business objectives. Leads a team of data center compute & storage engineers, architects, and operational personnel to ensure development and adherence to policies, procedures, and practices that conform to company guidelines and objectives. Responsible for managing data center vendors and suppliers to ensure SLAs and deliverables are being met to support IT and business objectives. Develops and executes the strategy and road-map for data center compute and storage platforms. Leads capacity management and business continuity efforts related to data center compute & storage. Works closely with all technical teams in Information Technology and across all business units.

  • Lead a highly motivated and skilled technical team to ensure the successful execution of plan/build/run activities, including solution design, project delivery, and day-to-day execution of operational responsibilities
  • Drive continuous improvement in your service area by analyzing KPIs, metrics, incident root cause, and service trends and set the bar for service quality
  • Develop and maintain data center compute & storage components of the IT infrastructure strategy and road-map
  • Lead design and build teams to engineer and implement data center compute & storage solutions that align the the IT infrastructure strategy and road map
  • Partner with MSP to drive automation and continue to enhance monitoring and instrumentation in support of data center compute & storage operations
  • Participate in and monitor the change management requests related to data center technologies
  • Participate in on-call rotation for incident escalation and incident management
  • Work with the MSP to ensure that the quality and performance of their operational support meets Sempra's business needs
  • Be held accountable to ensure the MSP has the tools and support to be successful
  • Act as an escalation point for issues and incidents that will arise through interactions between the MSP and your IT and Business Clients
  • Ensure adherence to IT standards
  • Review the performance metrics and reports provided by the MSP; identify under-performance areas and recommend remediation plans
  • Review and verify maintenance contracts and ensure they match our inventory and have the appropriate support levels
  • Continuously attain current knowledge of trends and developments in the data center compute and storage domains
  • Provide support, guidance, and mentoring to the team
  • Develop short/long term capacity plans
  • Develop and maintain your operational budget

Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor's degree required (Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field).
  • 10 years relevant experience required, including experience with managing 24x7 operational teams, managing IT infrastructure projects, Business Continuity/Disaster recovery, System Orchestration and Automation, Architectural Standardization, and IT infrastructure engineering.
  • Must possess strong consulting, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills at a business level is required

Desired Skills

  • Incident response management experience desirable.
  • ITIL/ITSM experience desirable.
  • Ability to think strategically, work with a sense of urgency, and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to rapidly find, assess, and synthesize information correctly while under pressure.
  • Demonstrable experience in effectively managing small to large projects in a cross-functional environment.

  • Converged infrastructure.
  • Hyperconverged infrastructure.
  • Storage technologies including SAN, NAS, and Cloud.
  • Compute technologies including Dell and IBM Power Series.
  • Virtualization platforms including VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Cloud infrastructure platforms including Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS.
  • System monitoring and alerting technologies.
  • Operations automation technologies.
