Our client is looking for a Mainframe / Data Center Technician for a 3+ month project in Sacramento, CA.


This role is with the IT Facilities team supporting local and remote data centers. This position will provide data center technical data center services, nightly batch processing in an IBM Mainframe environment, and print operations. This position will be required to work independently or with overlapping team schedules. The candidate will be required to understand IBM OS/390 console operations, data center infrastructure installations, servers, storage, network, and cabling infrastructure. Knowledge of supporting Telecommunications Rooms (IDF's MDF's), monitoring and responding to UPS systems in alert, troubleshooting, and working with third party vendors. This position will transition from a mainframe operator to Data Center Technician as the team takes on more Level 1 responsibilities over the next 6 -12 months.


Technical Duties


- Extensive experience/working knowledge of IBM Mainframe (such as, IEHPROGM and IEBCOPY, System Z9 Processor or OS\390 Mainframe software.


- Experience with MVS/ESA and Jes2 commands, as well as VTAM and CICS


- Knowledge and skills to utilize on-line utility features provided through CICS, TSO/SPF, DMS/OS, CA-1, SAR, JCL, Mainframe scheduling, such as Control M.


- Perform hardware rack & stack of network, server, other technology appliances.


- Coordinate vendor visits for project & part replacements


- Track & maintain logs for hardware arrival & dispatch in/out of the data center


- Label & document data center assets in a centralized location


- Keep track of rack level space & power utilization and capture data in a centralized location


- Perform daily visible inspection and proactively inform issues to the relevant asset owners within the data center.


- Responsible for managing stock of basic day to day use assets like cables, connectors, labels, cables ties etc.


- Responsible for creating and maintaining detailed and comprehensive documentation and diagrams of data center equipment and infrastructure.


- Monitoring and conducting initial analysis on network activities and selected systems components using various monitoring programs such as SolarWinds, nForm Liebert,


Physical Requirements:


- Must be able to work in a very structured environment, with a shared work area and are required to stay at the workstation while performing the functions and task of the position.


- Must be available (flexible) to work variable shifts, days, overtime, and/or additional hours (holidays and weekends included) for a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week operation.


- Must be physically capable of moving boxes weighing up to 45 pounds.
