Responsible for developing end-to-end test strategy based upon software specifications. Consults with project managers, product managers and software developers to identify system requirements. Develop and execute manual and automated test cases. Identify, clearly document and prioritize defects. Create and track quality assurance metrics. Provide input related to testing environments and testing software. Coordinate testing efforts.

 

Job Responsibilities

Provide technology support/development and process assurance (24x7 or as needed) for the university's enterprise information system processes to ensure uninterrupted processing and acquire a working knowledge of the diverse legacy applications that interface with these systems and use that expertise to provide application support. Lead project teams where applicable. Provide ongoing analysis of pending change requests, and assist internal departmental administrators in the handling and prioritizing of these efforts.

Provide consultation to stakeholders to resolve problems, understanding and collaborating on business requirements, determining system impact and developing plans for completion of effort.

Mainframe Application Analyst/ Developer - Qualifications

Level 1:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1 year of professional work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A degree in an area or discipline related to management information systems, business, mathematics, science, or computer science.
  • Experience in: Mainframe programming, utilizing technologies such as: COBOL, SAS, DB2, IMS/DC, MVS, TSO, JCL, SDF2, IOF or equivalent. Experience in relational database programming, such as SQL. Experience in programming or related experience in Information Systems. Lotus Notes programming. Developing and maintaining applications such as financial, HR, or student systems typical of those required to support a large university.

Level 2:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years of experience in a programming or analytical position
  • Experience in the design, development, and maintenance of database applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A degree in an area or discipline related to management information systems, business, mathematics, science, or computer science.
  • Experience in: Mainframe programming, utilizing technologies such as: COBOL, SAS, DB2, IMS/DC, MVS, TSO, JCL, SDF2, IOF or equivalent. Experience in relational database programming, such as SQL. Experience in programming or related experience in Information Systems. Lotus Notes programming.   • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4 years of experience in a programming or analytical position
  • Mainframe programming skills, utilizing technologies such as: COBOL, SAS, DB2, IMS/DC, MVS, TSO, JCL, SDF2, IOF or equivalent. Experience in relational database programming, such as SQL. Experience in programming or related experience in Information Systems. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A degree in an area or discipline related to management information systems, business, mathematics, science, or computer science.
  • Experience in: Lotus Notes programming; developing and maintaining applications such as financial systems and/or student systems typical of those required to support a large university; leading and/or supervising other analyst/programmers.


Mainframe Application Analyst/ Developer - Examples of Work

Level 1:

  • Translate business requirements into application functionality
  • Research and understand data model.
  • Develop application functionality using organizational development  tools in compliance with requirements.
  • Comply with application security requirements.
  • Adhere to organization’s design policies, including maintaining current documentation.
  • Provide application troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with business users and ITS staff.


Level 2:

  • Perform complex analysis of business use cases to ensure application solutions meet client needs.
  • Provide expertise with respect to data sources, ensuring application artifacts demonstrate quality and accuracy.
  • Use organizational development tools in a manner that demonstrates advanced competency and produces applications that perform efficiently.
  • Solve complex problems, assimilating information rapidly, and working under pressure.
  • Provide strong expertise in testing enterprise applications.
  • Provide advanced application troubleshooting for complex applications.
  • Identify and communicate issues and risks in a timely manner.


Level 3:

  • Provide expert consultation and comprehensive recommendations by anticipating needs with respect to requirements analysis, level of effort estimation, and project planning.
  • Consider broad scope across functional areas when translation business needs into application design.
  • Participate in all phases of application implementation.
  • Produce high quality application artifacts, including technical requirements, test documentation, system/operations guides, issues/enhancement request documentation.
  • Develop guidelines and policies for application development activities.
  • Develop guidelines and policies for application testing.
  • Mentor other application developers.
