job summary:

The IT Senior Application Developer plays a pivotal role in the design, construction, installation, testing and maintenance of our software systems. The IT Application Development team supports multiple teams and applications that touch all ASI storefront, back office, Delivery, Customer Care, Marketing and Media employees.

This role supports and creates IT applications to meet business objectives and strategic initiatives.

He or She designs, builds, monitors, and maintains a consolidated set of applications used across the company.

This individual uses creative problem-solving skills to design and develop easily supported solutions that move our business forward. He or She has a test-driven design philosophy and assists others in developing the same.

Additionally, this role raises emerging issues and recommends necessary actions to course correct. This role reports to the (Senior) Manager, IT Application Development.

As the IT Senior Application Developer, you will:

Cultivate Continuous Improvement

  • Responsible for applying design concepts applicable to multiple programming languages and data structures. Develops Unit and Integrated test cases along with Design.
  • Create test-driven designs for IT architect review.
  • Write code, test cases, and supporting documentation to project specifications. Utilizes and creates Best Practices for maintainable applications.
  • Create and support realistic test cases with appropriate data and processes. Support QA and business team member testing activities.
  • Help define requirements for and integrate ASI systems with 3rd party applications.
  • Develop and utilize reusable code.
  • Tie business requirements to developed code through documentation that enables ongoing support and subsequent development.
  • Lead unit and integrated testing of existing and new applications.
  • Proactively support applications during Operating System, hardware, and 3rd party (integration) upgrades.

Manage Business Relationships

  • Build and maintain relationships with IT and business leaders
  • Influence cross functional partners by providing credible designs and articulating a point-of-view.
  • Escalates issues, risks, and changes in a timely, structured manner
  • Effectively Communicate & Support Change
  • Ensure team members and managers understand current status, future milestones and dependencies, issues, and roadblocks involved with your work. Collaborate with Project Management Office (PMO) to execute against project plans.
  • Provide accurate estimates to other team members, Project Manager, and IT management.
  • Provide information and periodic updates to support overall IT performance metrics, monthly project status reporting and quarterly resource planning review
  • Optimizes the business user experience through feedback and lessons learned

This posting could be for a developer utilizing RPG on AS/400, PHP, Metl, PostScript, and/or MicroStrategy. This position would be appropriate for someone with at least 7 years of related experience involving most of the target programming languages/environments.

skills: The ideal candidate will meet the following required requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience with related programming languages and environments.
  • 5+ years in retail industry experience
  • AS/400 RPG
  • Strong SQL experience
  • Experience working with service programs ideally IBM Rational for coding
  • Knowledge of PHP is a plus
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, providing strategic and tactical leadership
  • Proactive approach by identifying problems and then creating solutions
  • Adaptability, comfortable in ambiguity, and flexible to the changing retail market forces and shifting priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills; Ability to synthesis complex ideas into digestible business-friendly information
  • Must be curious about new ways of thinking and working while executing with a sense of urgency
