IT Security Specialist - concentration in COOP and Disaster Recovery

Perspecta has an immediate need for anIT Security Specialist withconcentration in COOP and Disaster Recovery in Washington, DC, with the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Serve as an internal consultant and trusted/expert advisor in the area of Disaster Recovery (DR) and Continuity of Operations (COOP)
  • Develop, maintain and gain authorization for the organizations Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Information Technology Contingency Plan (ITCP), as well as the associated training materials and communications devices needed to facilitate employee and senior executive understanding of organizational response, recovery and continuity procedures.
  • Function in a collaborative environment, seeking subject matter consultation with other analysts and experts, both internal and external to the organization, to leverage analytical and technical expertise to ensure the BCP and ITCP reflect the organizations existing IT environment and infrastructure.
  • Shape, develop and deliver IT DR and COOP training curricula across all levels of the organization from line employees to senior executives.
  • Envision potential IT disaster scenarios which could originate from an environmental, human or technological source, including from a potential threat actor and support the design and execution of a response, recovery and/or continuity exercise against the organizations BCP and ITCP.
  • Develop and recommend analytic approaches or solutions to disaster situations for which information is incomplete, or for which no precedent exists.
  • Document lessons learned deliverables which will convey the results of disaster events and/or exercises to organizational leadership for potential integration into a change management process for the organizations existing BCP and ITCP.
  • Participate as a member of Agency or Center COOP and DR planning teams, coordination groups and task forces as necessary.



  • At least 3 years of experience in the business continuity, contingency planning, disaster recovery, or continuity of operations domains in a customer-facing role, including interfacing with senior executive leadership.
  • Knowledge and utilization of NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-34, Rev.1Continuity Planning Guide for Federal Information Systems.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to communicate complex information, concepts or ideas in a concise, confident and well-organized manner via excellent verbal, and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and terminology associated with a wide range of Information Technology and communications infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of existing, emerging and long-range technologies related to IT operations including Amazon Web Services, systems virtualization, Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service and Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service.
  • Experience working independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience with designing, drafting, editing and implementing Business Continuity Plans, IT Contingency Plans, DR plans or COOP plans and delivery of division wide and executive level training related to such plans.
  • Experience in developing high quality written reports and briefings (After Action Reports, Lessons Learned, Corrective Action Plans etc.) using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, etc.

This position requires United States Citizenship and ability to get a clearance.
