We are seeking great people for a rewarding opportunity. We have an immediate need for a senior level Disaster Recovery Specialist with a proven background in the successful management and delivery of DR/BCP and security IT projects ranging in size and complexity within a highly customized, enterprise level infrastructure.

The Disaster Recovery Specialist reports to the DR Manager and is responsible for coordination and assists with development of Disaster Recovery Plans and procedures. Ensures the organization can respond to a disaster and that the critical IT functions can be resumed within a defined time frame. Limits the amount of loss to the stricken facilities and that repairs and/or replacement is completed as quickly as possible. This responsibility includes coordinating the maintenance and ongoing exercise (testing) of the recovery plans for each critical functional unit.

  • Provide technical assistance and occasional leadership for enterprise server recovery initiatives.
  • Participate in annual BIA and risk assessment to determine interdependencies needed to define recovery plans.
  • Contribute content and provide updates to Disaster Recovery plans and documentation.
  • Participate in recovery efforts in the event of an actual disaster- Providing 24x7 on-call support for any emergency that may require activation of all or part of the Disaster Recovery plan.
  • Collaborate with the Network, Storage, Database, Disaster Recovery and Security and other teams to recommend, design and implementation of Server Recovery solutions.
  • Validate and test Disaster Recovery environment and installations.
  • Testing, updating, and implementation of the local IT Unit DR Plans. Document the results and recommend/implement program changes.
  • Track and report on issues and metrics related to Disaster Recovery.
  • Facilitates multi-functional operational and technical meetings related to application level plan development and data center disaster recovery.
  • Analyze server equipment performance, collect information, and prepare summary reports as required by management and proactive support of the recovery infrastructure and environment.
  • Help develop and submit audits and compliance reports, related to Disaster Recovery to management.
  • Participate in supporting any audit requests and findings relating to the Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Participate in vendor DR audits, reviewing their disaster recovery plans and compare the expected results to the required results (RTOs) of the systems supported.
  • Review technical details of outages to both virtual and physical servers to establish potential impact and future risk to availability of services and recommend course of action to minimize risk of future service outages.
  • Assuring adequacy of IT unit contingency plans for critical IT areas, functions & applications to maintain continued operations, asset protection and loss mitigation in the event of a disruption.
  • Working with IT and Disaster Recovery Program (DRP) management to enhance contingency plans mitigating the effect of a technology system or application failure or problem. Key objectives are that business units can operate, continue to manage the firm's assets and satisfy our regulatory obligations.
  • Performing all departmental administrative activities including staff meeting attendance, monthly status reporting, planning, expense processing, documentation and other activities, as assigned, in a timely fashion.

The Disaster Recovery Specialist will participate in an actual disaster recovery effort and will be responsible for:

  • Participation in the original site damage assessment.
  • Serving as liaison between the IT Crisis/Incident Management team (i.e. senior management) and the Disaster Recovery teams (i.e. the teams recovering operations at the alternate facilities and the teams restoring operations at the home facility).
  • Tracking and documenting recovery activities.
  • Collecting final reports and expense receipts from all recovery areas.
  • Application level recovery process.

Required Experience:

  • 7-10 years of progressive IT experience with a minimum of 3 years' experience in Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity planning and project implementation.
  • Must have experience and demonstrated proficiency in DR program execution, managing process change projects, and knowledge of the disaster recovery program lifecycle.
  • Technically strong; working knowledge of system hardware, software, protocols, standards and back-up software. This role specifically requires a strong knowledge of servers.

Knowledge, Skills and Specifications:

  • Ability to work independently and to make emergent decisions on ones own.
  • Strong ITIL Service Management knowledge around Service Design, Change Management, Incident Management, and Continuity Management.
  • Skilled in using the Microsoft Office Suite including MS Visio and MS Project and experience creating technical designs, and functional professional documents and reports.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Information Security, Computer Science, US Military Service equivalence, or a combination of education and hands-on work experience equivalence.
  • Preferred certifications: ITIL Foundation, DRII or BCI,
