Title: IT Business Analyst

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

Duration: 6 month contract with possible extension or hire


The IT Business Analyst is a member of the Global Information Security (GIS) PMO, and provides planning, transformation and business analysis support. The role will work with the Global Information Security organization and study the organization's mission, value proposition, strategic focus, and stakeholder requirements. He/she will support organizational strategy and process improvement, using industry best practices and critical thinking to capture and analyze findings; and establish key performance indicators, performance targets, and dashboards for performance monitoring.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of experience with business process re-engineering, organizational change management, strategic communications, strategic planning, organizational design, integrated master scheduling, performance management, or overhead optimization

- Experience with industry methods for process improvement, organizational design, organizational change management, or performance optimization

- Expert knowledge of data analytics and display so that all team members can quickly understand and synthesize the information

- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously through effective priority setting, efficient use of time, and organization

- Project management skills: create project plans and manage multiple parallel deadlines, ability to identify roadblocks proactively and formulate mitigation plans

- Change management skills: stakeholder analysis and communication plans

- Possession of excellent data gathering and analysis skills

- Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills


- Prior experience in information security, IT risk management, cyber security intelligence center or similar environment tracking information security risks and threats.

- Ability to place information security risks and threats in the proper context and identify the "so what " for decision makers; ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.


The ideal candidate demonstrates success in performing these tasks:

- Collect and analyze information security performance metrics on a monthly basis, identify systemic issues and risks, and review with senior management.

- Establish performance measures, monitor and analyze said performance metrics to identify and implement performance-based improvements.

- Clearly convey information in understandable terms to those not as familiar with information security processes.

- Provide project management, analysis, and communications needed to enable successful delivery against the strategic information security priorities:

- Define, develop, refine and evaluate performance metrics to establish process success, including working with multiple stakeholders, often with competing/conflicting objectives, to ensure cohesive and reachable measures of success

- Prepare presentations and reports for various stakeholder meetings

- Manage smaller projects to accomplish key objectives for the respective information security disciplines

- Compose and maintain documentation such as but not limited to correspondence, briefings, operating procedures, memorandums reports, and requirements documents

- Support tasks requiring the collecting, compiling, evaluating and publishing of information and statistical data in documents, records, forms and reports.

- Support analysis of system functionality and business processes and provide improvement recommendations.

- Provide support for project resource leveling planning and analysis.

Success in this role requires a proven ability to analyze a complex set of data and to be able to communicate complex information in an actionable manner, to manage multiple projects at the same time, and a willingness to find innovative solutions to business problems. The desired candidate is able to work independently without close supervision; and is self-motivated and disciplined. He/she demonstrates previous success as a self-starter, team player, and leader in a fast-paced environment.


Information Analysis, Reporting and Summary

- Analyzes internal and external data to develop findings.

- Summarizes findings and analysis using appropriate tools and resources.

- Uses Microsoft Office and other relevant tools to present relevant information.

- Participates in cross discipline team meetings with experts to review these findings and present to the Project team.

- Provide process key performance indicator (KPI) status/metrics reporting for continual process improvement insight.

Project Management Support

- Supports the Program Leaders on specific tasks such as developing and maintaining detailed plans with timelines/milestones for various projects

- Compiles and prepares information for various stakeholder meetings.

- Respond to ad-hoc requests from Project Leader and Continent stakeholders.

- Improves processes, actively seeks stakeholder feedback and focuses on designing processes/materials.

Additional Responsibilities

- Informs, updates, and provides information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person in a timely manner.

- Attends and participates in all relevant meetings.

- Presents ideas, expectations and information in a concise, organized manner.

- Uses problem solving methodology for decision making and follow up.

- Maintains positive working relations with internal customers and department managers.

- Manages time effectively and conducts activities in an organized manner.

- Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by the Project Leader.

- Special projects as assigned, including ad hoc requests for information and analysis related to GIS initiatives.
