As part of the Image Processing group, the Imaging Scientist's primary responsibility is to characterize and understand every aspect of the on-orbit imaging system's performance. By developing the processes and tools to monitor the performance of the imaging system on-orbit, the Imaging Scientist is expected to increase the utility of our image product and the efficiency of the larger constellation.

The successful candidate has a strong sense of curiosity, a love of challenging problems, and the desire to persistently learn and grow. The work of the Imaging Scientist centers on the performance of the payload on-orbit. As a result, the Imaging Scientist is expected to have a strong background in optical systems under a variety of environmental conditions. Furthermore, the particular role of the Imaging Scientist comes with both a hardware and a software component. The Imaging Scientist is expected to understand the physical reality of hardware systems while also being excited by the prospect of writing production level software. The Imaging Scientist is a fundamentally collaborative role and will work across the organization, particularly with the Constellation Systems Engineering and Payload Engineering groups.
