The Electronic Design Engineer will support the design and development of electronic circuit board assembly controls for Information Display Hardware section products from concept through production. Design responsibilities include the development and analysis of: analog, digital and power circuits including 12-24 bits ADCs, 8/16/32bit Ps and Cs, displays, Instrument Clusters, Digital Cameras, ECUs and AC/DC, linear and switching power supplies.

Education Requirement

  • BS in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Required
  • 5 years Electrical/Electronic component design and development experience

Typical Day

  • Creation of documentation including technical requirements, functional specifications, qualification test plans and product change notices.
  • Generate schematics and support PCB layout designers.
  • Support current production designs including quality improvements, cost reduction, component obsolescence and failure analysis.
  • Evaluate and approve electronic components that meet requirements for availability, performance and cost.
  • Create components drawings.
  • Evaluate failures to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Participate with product teams on design development activities (Electrical design reviews)
  • Interface and support validation and manufacturing engineers/technicians with validation and manufacturing testing.
  • Apply knowledge of DOE, FMEA, tolerance analysis, simulation, statistical methods and DFM to improve robustness and quality of electronic design

Technical Skills

  • Must have 3+ years of experience in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design in Mentor or other tool with experience in multi-layer boards.
  • Must have experience in analog, high speed digital and power supply designs.
  • Familiarity with OS (WinCE, Linux, etc.)
  • Strong functional knowledge of electronic components and circuits including microprocessors, microcontrollers, op-amps, regulators, standard digital logic ICs, and discrete semiconductors (diodes, transistors, FETS, triacs) is required
  • Familiarity with basic electronic test equipment such as DVMs, Oscilloscopes and Power Supplies is required
  • Knowledge of circuit simulation and C programming.
  • Good documentation and presentation skills using MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required
  • Knowledge of design and analysis tools such as VHDL, Minitab, MatLab, PSpice is preferred.
  • Knowledge of FMEA's, electrical stress analysis calculations, EMI and EMC PCB layout techniques is preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic assembly and soldering of components is preferred.
  • Experience with project management tools
