Client involved with the engineering & construction of gas process plants, refineries and similar heavy industrial plants is currently looking for an Electrical & Instrumentation Designer to join their design team in Houston, TX. You need 5-20 years of experience designing electrical & instrumentation systems as a Designer supporting gas processing, refinery, or similar heavy industrial plant EPC projects. *** salary commensurate with experience ***

Responsibilities for the Electrical Designer

  • Develop and modify drawings and details to support the instrumentation, electrical and controls designs for heavy industrial plant engineering projects
  • Model electrical cable trays, junction boxes, duct banks, electrical equipment, MCC, PDC, switch gear bldg., transformers etc.
  • Create & maintain Electrical Equipment Lists, Line Lists, Single Line Diagrams, Instrument and Electrical Plan Drawing's, Schematic Diagrams, Cable Tray routing, Cable Schedules, Lighting Calculations, Grounding Plans, etc
  • Designing and drafting of electrical schematics, loop diagrams, control panels, wiring diagrams, including bill of materials and installation details
  • Review technical vendor submittals for accuracy, specification compliance and installation requirements
  • Size and lay out electrical and instrumentation wiring and junction boxes, including proper layout of cable tray and conduit in pipe racks, on equipment modules, etc
  • Assist in the development of project schedules and manpower requirements
  • Attend project meetings and design reviews as required

Requirements for the Electrical Designer

  • 5-20 years of experience as an Electrical Designer or I&E Designer supporting heavy industrial plant EPC projects
  • The ideal candidates would have more electrical design experience vs instrumentation
  • Client prefers candidates with an AS degree or a Technical Certification or equivalent experience
  • You need experience with construction detail drawings, lighting layouts, panel schedules considering balance and loading, cable, conduit and tray schedule, loop diagrams and control system architectures
  • You need to have some experience with either AutoCAD or Microstation
  • Our client prefers candidates with experience using either PDS or SmartPlant 3D modeling software
  • Any specific experience in SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) is a BIG PLUS
  • You need a good working knowledge of NEC codes and ISA guidelines as they relate to specification & selection of equipment for use in hazardous areas or locations exposed to chemical or environmental conditions
  • You need experience with regards to the sizing and pysical layouts of cable tray, lighting, instrument location, junction box layouts including cable tray fill and lighting calculations
  • You need experience with single line diagrams, junction box sizing, layouts and cable connection diagrams, schematics and interconnection diagrams
