The DoT/FAA BDE is responsible for growing IBM Global Business Services (GBS) sales, focusing primarily on DoT Agencies and FAA through client subject matter expertise and trusted client relationships. The BDE will be responsible for the entire sales cycle, from identification and development of opportunities through the IBM proposal to contract signing. This will include building a pipeline of opportunities for DoT account, including FAA, leading (guiding) proposal teams, managing the selling process and successfully closing the deal for profitable IBM business. The individual will be expected to work closely with various competencies within IBM, including the Public Sector Service Lines, to develop & drive service offerings to build account pipeline. The BDE will require a deep understanding of the clients, market needs, and IBM GBS service offering strengths to build proactive solutions. Additionally, the BDE must know the vendor community that currently supports DoT and FAA and have the relationships to establishing partnering on key opportunities that can be translated in realized revenue. The individual will be expected to own the overall process from conceptualization to execution, including leading key client meetings to validate opportunities. The expectation is that within two years, he/she will drive more than $40M in signings and $20M in Revenue.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Deep understanding of the following client organizations (Dept of Energy is primary requirement): Department of Transportation, including agencies Federal Aviation Administration
  • Successful track record of professional services business development and sales into the client organizations
  • Ability to translate IBM offerings into solutions to solve the clients pain points
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple client stakeholders, as well as internally within IBM to design, present, propose, and close engagements
  • Excellent communicator - both written and oral
  • Experience in working in a matrixed organization to drive business

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Extensive contacts at the client organizations
  • Former executive at one or more of the client organizations
