Role Value Proposition: 

This role is a Director-level technical leader and people manager on the Software Quality Assurance team responsible for testing MetLife’s US-based portfolio and building a global center of excellence. The Director is a member of the TechQA senior leadership team and a critical component of our organization, Test Engineering.  Test Engineering is accountable for implementing and continually refreshing of our strategic tools roadmap to achieve MetLife’s Digital strategy.

  

Key Responsibilities:  

Provides leadership, strategy, goals and direction for the TechQA organization.  An active member of the TechQA senior leadership group; the Director will motivate our team and build partnerships across our organization, setting the tone for a culture of Quality. A balance of strategic vision and tactical delivery is required for success in the role; the tools in our roadmap must be adopted for use within the 2,000 projects our test delivery team completes annually.  Key subject areas include: test automation, test data management, service virtualization, digital/mobile, test management and reporting and big data/analytics.

 

  • Digital Delivery. Drives towards a continuous integration model and capabilities, supported by a dedicated team and consistent, documented process.  Ensures automation tools meet requirements and are used in a mature, efficient means by our teams and partners.  Leads the way to implement and ingrain automation enablers, e.g. test data management, service virtualization, security and environmental readiness.

  • Innovation. Develops and maintains the test engineering roadmaps, combined with detailed implementation plans.  Accountable for test infrastructure, software and service vendor assessment, engagement and renewals via the prescribed processes and teams at MetLife. Ensure deliverables completed within committed timeframe and budget.

  • Strategy: Identifies and recommends changes to enhance the effectiveness of test strategies and tools. At times, engaged on significant application delivery programs to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of our tooling solutions. Leads standardization across the test organization and ensures continuous process and test engineering improvements in test automation and related areas

  • Compliance and Risk.  Assures the test organization is properly prepared for external and internal compliance requirements and is proactively identifying and mitigating risks. Communicates with senior management and other stakeholders.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:  Full people management responsibility, including hiring, firing, promotions, performance and compensation management, training and development. Ensure vendor performance and deliverables meet contract specifications.

  • Budget / Financial Management: Manages demand, forecasts and monitors the budget for areas of responsibility including infrastructure, software licenses and staff. Participates in budget planning for the IT organization.  Vendor delivery and relationship management - develops and processes SOWs, manages deliverables; may approve billing to ensure vendor delivery.

  • Performs related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

 

  • Ability to advocate for our vision and influence via partnerships are critical in this role.  Primary stakeholders and partners include: Enterprise Architecture, Application Development teams and software and services vendors.

  • Translates executive management vision and develops department vision, strategy, service levels, and business objectives.  Communicates vision and strategy to staff. 

  • Accomplished change management leader, able to operate effectively in a highly matrix environment.

 

Required:

  • Implementing continuous delivery via automation and related capabilities

  • Experience working in DevOps and Agile delivery models

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field, or equivalent work experience

 

Preferred:

  • 12+ years of systems development, software quality assurance and testing and/or business experience. 3+ years of personnel management experience. 

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field preferred. 

  • PMP Certification
