The director, Systems Integrations leads a team of specialized integration developers and operational staff under the integration center of excellence umbrella. This person will be responsible for leading a team that delivers and maintains high-class integration solutions in hybrid portfolio of in-house developed and SaaS/COTS solutions. This includes buildout of an integration framework, technology selection, solution design, development, delivery, oversight and tuning. This leader is essential to help further mature an effective enterprise integration practice that performs, services our business integrations well and gains efficiency through modern integration practices and patterns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead, manage, mentor and support an effective team of integration developers, its technologies, practices and delivered products
  • Design, deliver, own and support high-class integration components in a hybrid solution portfolio (build and purchased, on-prem and cloud)
  • Maintain integrations in an adaptable, API preferred integration landscape that allowssolution landscape to evolve and adjust rapidly as necessary
  • Plan for scalability of integration solutions, establish SLAs and integration contracts, define and analyze metrics for the integrations
  • Collaborate with and enable IT teams (architecture, development, support) in the overall integration solutions design, delivery, support and teamwork
  • Foster adoption of API-led integration and solution approaches
  • Architect and maintain APIs through their lifecycle with API management technologies and processes (including sign-up, security, throttling, access control)
  • Mature integration practices and evolve an effective integration framework and portfolio that includes effective meta-data management, fosters reuse/self-service and allows direct contributions / participation / technology use by other IT teams
  • Partner with B2B (EDI/X.12/APIs), development and ops teams on joint solutions & technology sharing, ownership and solution building
  • Lower cost, improve quality and accelerate integration development through automation practices (CI/CD, automated regression/unit testing, etc.)
  • Build and support of an ODS, as necessary, for a hybrid portfolio of build & buy
  • Manage and advance vendor relationships and solutions around integrations
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and proactively identify areas for growth, improvement, and development of enterprise integration capabilities, both internally and externally
  • Maintain an efficient technical environment, oversee cost, deployment models, production and SLA adherence

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages a growing integration team that initially has direct reports but might later include supervisory staff. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these team members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


  • 7+ years of IT experience with 3+ years technically leading integration developers / ops staff
  • Hands-on technical experience with enterprise service bus and API life-cycle technologies

    • Strong ESB, API technology and MUnit/NUnit experience, with Mulesoft preferred
    • Experience with scripting languages (Groovy, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, or Beanshell) and message queueing products, preferred

  • Demonstrated experience delivering solutions with integration design patterns, architectures and integration technology beyond point-to-point integrations, i.e. publish/subscribe, orchestrations, ODSs, MDM
  • Solid programming experience using Java, XPath, and XSLT, SOAP / REST Web Services, Spring Framework, RAML etc. in order to deliver solutions. Strong knowledge of EAI/SOA best practices, development methodologies & standards
  • Experience/mindset working in an agile SDLC, as well as more strict SDLC models when necessary
  • Ability to think outside the box, take initiative, facilitate and collaborate with IT & business teams
  • Ability to work independently, focus on details, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to delegate, supervise and work together on multiple projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with vendors, business and IT partners
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal communication (oral/written) and facilitation skills, including ability to communicate IT technical concepts to business users
  • Experience integrating with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure and IBMi/iSeries, a plus
  • Certified Mulesoft Developer - Integration and API Associate, or similar, preferred
  • Knowledge of Transportation industry, a plus
