Job Summary
As a member of Pharmacy Renewal Innovation team, you will be a part of shaping the future of Pharmacy - re-imagining the role pharmacy and pharmacists play in people’s lives and in healthcare overall. The mission is to transform operational processes, and incubate new capabilities, conceive new differentiating products, service platforms and features for the benefit of the customers and shareholders. Director of Innovation Lifecycle Management will be responsible for managing innovation portfolio, potential total business impact, and exploration life cycle with associated budget - gathering ideas in line with strategic themes, projecting business outcomes, evaluating promising concepts and for proven concepts influencing ‘productization’ roadmap. Successful candidate will be setting priorities and strategically driving multiple exploration work streams and cross functional teams to test hypotheses to prove feasibility, viability or fail fast. Innovation life cycle management will include “concept car-ing”, vision illustration, business casing, rapid prototypes, pilots and transitioning of proven concepts into the product portfolio and roadmap.

This role requires a combination of business acumen, leadership, organization, structure, portfolio approach and program/project management fundamentals, pharmacy and healthcare industry knowledge, as well as all-inclusiveness, and excellent collaboration and partnership capabilities. Ideal candidate will have substantial experience with portfolio approach to strategic planning and prioritization, methodical delivery excellence for execution and lifecycle management. This is a leadership position within the innovation team requiring the ability to drive innovation execution team members and partner with teams across Business, external subject matter experts and partners, Product, UX, Engineering, and Operations to execute prioritized explorations and help make winning bets to incubate new differentiating business capabilities. The successful candidate should also have experience with accelerated creation of new capabilities, product management, software development, integration, user experience and operationalization.

The key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Managing the innovation portfolio, projected business outcomes, execution strategy and explorations roadmap
  • Leading the portfolio and lifecycle management function, including: prioritizing opportunities, development the roadmap(s), schedules, business impact analysis for each opportunity and for the portfolio overall, explorations execution, budget, virtual team compositions, communication management, and business impact analysis for the portfolio overall and for each new potential capability.
  • Working with the Business and other teams to collect and prioritize ideas for the innovation opportunity catalog and portfolio
  • Encouraging new transformative thinking, trail blazing, and facilitate imagination and ideation sessions
  • Working with a dedicated Innovation team and with various other Product and Enterprise teams to execute explorations as part of accelerated incubation of new capabilitiesEnsuring alignment and transition of proven concepts and incubated capabilities to Product and to the Enterprise teams across Walgreens Boots Alliance for productization and scaled up operationalization.


Job Responsibilities
  • Develops and executes on IT product/service strategies and plans. Directs the operations of the assigned functional area to achieve strategic and operational business goals and targeted financial and content quality results. Establishes operational objectives for managers and/or teams of professionals in order to achieve the strategic and operational objectives of the group. Responsible for executing on functional and business goals for the specified area of expertise. Proactively addresses problems a cross functional areas of the business.
  • Provides day-to-day administrative direction and oversight of key technology/information systems and general support activities.
  • Works with key shareholders to formulate a comprehensive technology plan that is consistent with the overall business objectives and budgetary considerations.
  • Applies broad knowledge of product/service capabilities and environment to identify new growth areas, new technology and emerging product/service opportunities. Conducts technological research by studying organization goals, strategies, practices, and user projects. Recommends information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating organization outcomes; identifying problems; evaluating trends; anticipating requirements.
  • Implements policies and defines approach to strategy achievement for specified area of responsibility. Analyzes long-term impact of new or anticipated strategies and decisions.
  • Manages budgets, operational plans and performance requirements for the specified are of responsibility. Responsible for meeting budgetary goals and objectives.
  • Facilitates communication between staff, management, vendors, and other technology resources within and outside of the organization. Shares highly complex information related to areas of expertise. Interacts with senior management to keep abreast of objectives. Interacts with direct reports and peers in management / customers / vendors to interpret information and improve cross-functional processes and programs. Builds and enhances key internal and external contacts.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 8 years of experience in IT, Accounting, Finance, Consulting, Strategy and/or Analytics OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 11 years of experience in IT, Accounting, Finance, Consulting, Strategy and/or Analytics.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community and with vendors.
  • Experience diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience managing cross-functional and/or matrix teams.
  • Experience interacting at the executive level.
  • At least 4 years of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and capital budgets.
  • At least 4 years of experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10-15 years in the field of innovation and program management
  • Master's degree or MBA
  • Experience with portfolio and lifecycle management
  • Knowledge of product management and development
  • Experience with innovation accelerators
  • Global experience
  • Experience influencing senior leadership and decision-makers based on a commitment to business outcomes and customer agendas.
  • Knowledge of the Pharmacy and/or Healthcare industry
