Permanent position: Large steelmaker seeks a Steelmaking Department Manager to lead all activities within department- operations and maintenance. You should have extensive steelmaking experience and knowledge. Join a strong company with great benefits, a great bonus, and great relocation package!

Responsibilities for the Department Manager

  • Direct and oversee all operations and maintenance activities in the steelmaking department / melt shop
  • Manage the large department which includes over 300 hourly union employees and 50 salaried exempt employees
  • Create long-term planning in steelmaking to accomodoate business conditions, capital project, etc
  • Evaluate processes for continuous improvement in process consistency, quality, and product integrity
  • Foster a culture of trust, teamwork, responsibility, high expectations, and open communication

Requirements for the Department Manager

  • BS Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science strongly preferred
  • 10+ years leadership experience out of steelmaking
  • A deep understanding of the steelmaking process
  • Excellent communication skills required- written and verbal- and an ability to communicate with all levels of personnel
