The City of Henderson announces a recruitment to fill one (1) vacancy for a Database Administrator in the Information Technology Department.  The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.


Under general supervision, installs, configures, operates and maintains enterprise database environments; and performs related duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Installs, configures, maintains and operates enterprise database environments to meet application and core service requirements; manages and monitors database environments; troubleshoots/resolves identified and reported problems; works with vendors to resolve problems; performs script writing, updating and coding of automation tools and services; performs asset life cycle management for database hardware and software; creates, maintains and adheres to policies, procedures, standards and operational instructions for database environments.

  • Installs, configures, maintains and operates solutions to manage, monitor and operate database environments.

  • Serves as a technical lead on projects; interacts with project teams, vendors and other agencies to gather requirements; researches and recommends database solutions; provides technical guidance for solutions; coordinates database deployment and participates in system installation, configuration and testing; provides data extracts and/or data migrations; tunes and optimizes SQL statements.

  • Implements, maintains and operates ‘cloud solutions’ such as infrastructure-as-a-service, software-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service cloud solutions supporting database environments.

  • Implements, maintains and operates data protection and system disaster recovery solutions; ensures databases are backed up, replicated and recoverable as required; ensures database environments are secure by performing security monitoring; updates/upgrades database environments to keep current with security and version releases; participates in incident response; implements security solutions and processes to increase security posture.

  • Assists in planning and preparing for future technology solutions; stays up to date with emerging technologies and trends; meets with vendors to understand product roadmaps; researches and evaluates emerging technologies; and makes recommendations.

Requirements

 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or a closely related field

  • Seven (7) years of administration experience in relational databases

  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered

  • Must obtain and maintain certifications within one (1) core service area as aligned with job duties and identified by the department one (1) year from the date of appointment as a condition of continued employment:

    • Windows/Linux Operating Systems Services

    • Database Management Systems (Oracle/SQL Server) Services

    • Database Cloud Services

    • Database Data Protection/Disaster Recovery Services

    • Database Security Services
