Data Management and Insights (DMI), which offers Data Office capabilities to Wells Fargo, focuses on leveraging data as a strategic asset. Data is critical to Wells Fargos continued success, deepening relationships with our customers, creating a seamless and convenient multi-channel experience, and meeting our commitment to satisfy our customers financial needs. DMI defines how we use information across the company, align our business practices and support our continued focus on great customer experience.

Data Management Solutions

The Data Management Solutions (DMS) organization within DMI provides holistic and consistent data management capabilities to Wells Fargo. This includes domain management, data quality monitoring, metadata management, data lake management, and master/reference data management.

Position summary

The Data Lake Management Leader will over oversee management of a team which will partner with DMI leaders, technology leaders, corporate functions, and line of business (LOBs) partners to ensure that the data lake infrastructure and operating model meet the business needs of Wells Fargo. This role will drive the definition and implementation of business requirements to meet specific business needs.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Demonstrate data and technology thought leadership; develop productive business relationships, and build strong sponsorship of our data strategy and roadmap; understand and influence business data strategy, ensuring it is informed by current and emerging technology capability and supported by our architecture and roadmap

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive strategy to develop, refine and manage the data lake to meet specific business needs using value delivery approach and phased priority (e.g., regulatory and risk compliance, data domains prioritization)

  • Ensure technology partners are informed by business requirements, including data persistence, transformation, standardization, lineage/ traceability, conformance and analytical reporting needs, and implemented in accordance to committed timelines

  • Ensure alignment with the enterprise level data strategy, line of business strategy, and IT Strategy across a variety of business, stakeholders, and initiatives

  • Act as a catalyst to socialize DMS capabilities, solutions, and data assets to advance the data agenda of the enterprise

  • Define change management strategy to drive the adoption of business data strategy and solutions into LOB processes and behaviors while minimizing disruption to business

  • Responsible for leading large and complex team impacting all Lines of Business, Corporate Finance, Risk and Regulatory functions

  • Drive planning and implementation of approach/plan end-to-end while ensuring operational excellence and process efficiency

  • Collaborate and coordinate with executive and key leaders to maintain commitment to strategic objectives

  • Partner with peers in DM&I and EIT function as the conduit to SMEs within the Lines of Business

  • Recruit and develop high-performing senior managers to stand up organization; attract, and sustain elite talent, build collaborative high-performing teams, and foster culture of excellence

  • Ensure talent development leveraging both internal resources and industry best practices

  • Provide leadership for related internal as well as industry activities

  • Exercise the usual authority of a manager and is responsible for the management of individuals and matrixed teams focused on report documentation activities

  • Locations: Charlotte, NC; New York, NY or San Francisco, CA or other hub locations in the Wells Fargo domestic footprint.

    Required Qualifications

    10+ years of experience in analytics, modeling, or a combination of both8+ years of management experience; or 3+ years of leadership experience in an advanced quantitative analytics function

    Other Desired Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge of data management and data warehousing technologies
  • Experience with data management best practices and disciplines including data governance, business architecture, data quality, analytics and BI
  • Knowledge and practical implementation experience of data overlap across finance, risk, capital and regulatory functions
  • Knowledge of enterprise data warehousing and technologies such as Hadoop, Teradata, Aster, Data Lake, and Oracle
  • Broad financial expertise with knowledge of corporate affairs, financial and product fundamentals, and business policies, products, processes, systems, and roles
  • Experience creating strategic plans for enterprise-wide business initiatives
  • Highly-developed interpersonal and communication skills; proven ability to engage and influence technology and business executives
  • Ability to understand business processes and/or objectives to enable successful implementation of documentation activities and identification of future efficiencies
  • Proven track record of leadership overseeing multiple managers of large teams with diverse and complex areas of accountability
  • Experience defining, documenting, and implementing business requirements, policies, procedures and processes
  • Capacity to organize and manage multiple priorities and achieve results
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations
  • Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization
  • Proven ability to develop and manage relationships across Lines of Business and support functions
  • Experience presenting to operating committee members, boards and on industry forums
  • Experience dealing with regulatory agencies and internal audit assessments
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Driven, confident, organized and an accomplished problem solver
  • Bachelors degree, MBA preferred
